The BackPorch
Boutique: Hand Dyed Hemp, Hemp Wedding Dresses
Happyhippie.com
interviewed Jaime of The BackPorch Boutique, a creative artisan
who sews beautiful handmade hemp clothing.
When did you start and what got you started?
"I began sewing soon after my first Grateful Dead Show in 1994. I wanted a
hippie dress more than anything, and asked for one for christmas. Instead of
a dress,
my mom bought me a pattern and some Fabric, and thus began my infatuation with
sewing.
I am a self taught seamstress, with little direction/helo along the way. My
designs have really evolved over the past 12 years. I am happy to have made
the decision to GO GREEN with my Business. I have been online since 2000, and
have had a focus on Hand dyed Hemp Since 2004."
Why do you love what you do?
"I have a serious PASSION for art, fabric, and design. Everyone has the ability
to send a positive message, and I am fortunate enough to be able to do it
through my clothing:)
We are a Very environmentally conscious family, and strive
to BE GREEN on a daily Basis!! As a Family We believe in
Mother Nature and I love that I can
incorporate that into my business! I believe I have a responsibility to
spread the BE GREEN message!
ANd if thats not enough, I am also able to be a stay at home mom to my
daughter. "
Do you have a business philosophy?
"Work hard,
nothing comes for free...Anything is possible with a little hard
work, a LOT of determintion and a BIG Dream."
What are some of your best selling items?
"Wow, thats a tough one. My own original dress pattern are definitely
my Trademark at The BackPOrch BOutique and they are always a big seller...skirts
always do well too. And, with chilly weather on its way, pants are a very
big seller right now."
Jaime
continues," I have had countless requests for Hemp Wedding Dresses..
I am working
on a couple now, and they should be available
for purchase by Jan. Of 2008.
I owe a lot to my customers, Thank you, from the bottom of
my heart, The
BackPorch Boutique has come a long way, and because
of you I am able to continue on this
artistic journey. "
