Hello, I live in Northern Virginia, and was trying to find some "alternative/hippie" stores around here. I'm looking for things like clothing, candles, incense, herbs etc. etc. Now I get some things from online but I would prefer to have a place to just browse the collections from different subcultures and see what kind of things are out there. I'm trying to avoid the mass-marketed versions of these kinds of stores(I.E. Hot Topic). If anyone knows of any places they think are kind of cool please post them here. And Maybe, if there's enough interest I'll create a web page for stores from all over. I live in Northern Virginia, but am looking for excuses to tour my beautiful state and surrounding ones anyways, so if you know any in the Maryland/Virginia/West Virginia/DC area I'd appreciate it.Thanks, Mik |

I live in DC, and there's not much here or in NoVa that I know of, alas. Try Baltimore. The Karmic Connection in Fells Point is pretty awesome, and there are a few other little places around that same area.Peace, Deborah |

YES!! I know the coolest hippie store you can go to right in Northern VA...13626 Jefferson Davis Highway Woodbridge, VA 22191 to be specific! It's called Octopus Gardens and has been there for 20+ years. It is where I've bought a large percentage of my Grateful Dead items, tye-dies and "tobacco" products from for years. It is currently called an adult novelty shop, though (you'll see why when you visit) but has a lot of the same hippie goods you seem to be seeking. And, it's the place I met my awesome boyfriend at, as he works there! |

octopus gardens is good for the attire and other things. "tobacco" products i would recommend tobacco zone (a few miles down route 1). there are also some smaller hippie stores around the area. there is one down in fredricksburg (cant remember the name). also, there is a very small store on route 29 just east of the fairfax county pkwy (new rave). |

Fells point is great!!! and if you want to go south.. to NC there are some great shops in raleigh and in chapel hill and carborro... there are neat shops all over the place if you look hard enough... towns with colleges that have big art programs also tend to sell more artwork in the area.. GOOD LUCK.. |

Do you all know of any place near DC (within an hours drive) that sells glass pipes and the likes? Names and as close to the address as you know would be amazing! Thanks |

there's a place in old town Fredericksburg called Natural Mystics. It's on Prince Edward street; the heads that own it are really cool. for anyone who's interested, there's another cool spot down here called Eyeclopes that sells jimbe's and has a free drum circle every week. |

Hi, I'm in Va beach. You'd love Half Moon. It's got cool hippie clothes, if you're ever nearby. http://www.enchantedart.com/store/enter.html Is the website but it really doesn't show nearly all the clothes they have. Lots of cool posters, great incense, candles, music jewelry, all that fun stuff. Lots of Bob marley stuff though their main thing is Grateful dead stuff. |

I have a similar question. I'm planning on moving towards the Charlottesville area and was wondering if there is any sort of hippie store around that area? I'm talking clothes, posters, incense, etc. |
