I'm a woman under 50 with a bus and I'm wondering why you need to be a man over 50 to discuss buses? |

get the book "How to keep your volkwagen alive" by John Muir. it is THE book for any VDub owner. very detaied and easy to understand. and by the way, i am only 26 and can work on any vehicle, so the over 50 thing is a little wierd. Have a great day, and feel free to feel free. |

Thanks rabbit, I will look for book. I now know my question for over 50 vw bus owners was too limiting. Just looking for folks that want to keep them original and seeking advice on what was and where to purchase parts. So much online and in stores is targeting newer or custom stuff. Just where is that junk yard full of cool parts?? 8) like clips for visors, round reflectors , seats. sink/refer. (I gave mine away 10 yrs ago) to fellow hippy 8( not thinking at time I would keep this bus. Peace |

Im 27 and have had them as dail drivers for over 10 years, 61 panel 85 vanagon and now my 76 westy, I do any and all work except for longblock rebuilds, there is a Dunebuggy shop about 20 miles from here that does fantastic work at reasonable rates, save me from buying tools and equipment I'll only need every now and then. never rebuilt a tranny, easy enoug to find a good one from a buggy guy, other than that I think you'd be hard pressed to find a part of the van I havent bled on or cried overwaddya need? |

There used to be this place outside Bradford,OH. Nothing but a VW graveyard. Sooo sad to see all of those poor things rusting away. |

vws,hippies...like buds on the vine...I seem to have read the "idiot manual", before I bought a vw. Then I bought a "58" 21 window(samba,w/handcrank start) and have had vws under my fingernails for going on about 45 yrs. I've traveled across the country in vws, and be stopped somewhere, and others would stop also. Or see another vw soul coming down the road and instant peace sign/light flash/toke signal, and two more heads confer on the latest tokings...aaaaahhhh the good ole days...watch for the "blue weenie" somewhere near the ca/or border, near the coast...64 bus/camper...also check out thesamba.com and type2.com I am a motorHEAD, if ya need help, etc... PEACE |

WOW, what good info on samba site, a big hippie hug for all who passed on where to look. Now all I need is the budget to buy what is needed. I,ve rebuilt engine and replaced all steering parts, anyway it runs well but needs new rubber, seats and bits and pieces to make it look proud. This is the 7th bus I,ve owned, last 6 were in the 70"s what a great time that was. I,ve had this one 13 yrs, it's a 1969 camper. Elwood the Blues Van is a keeper and I hope to meet up with some of the folks on Fullmoon Bus site sometime. Can anyone tell me the diff between a westfalia, and a camper? Thanks, The Hat |

there's about half a dozen companies that made camper conversions, westphalia was one of them, ther was a popular one in australia and a few more across the pond.. If you pick up the VW mags or some pictoral type books you can see some examples of each, I always think of westys where the top is hinged at the front or rear and pops up at an angle(my opinion, not fact), but some of the other companies ahd pop tops that went sraight up or hinged along the side and pop open like a clamshell with windows in the top. some of the camper conversions didnt pop up at all... confusing isnt it. the interior options are probably too numerous to list |

I recomend not ordering any parts from Bus Depot or Bus boys, the stuff is just expensive crap. |
