Hi everyone I'm a 21 year old psychology student from Holland and I'm doing research on the relation between being a hippie and smoking weed. Are the two inseperable? I would very much like to hear your view on this. |

All depends on how you define a hippie, and I think you'll find some disagreement about that here. Do you think the two are inseparable? |

NAMASTE I think you will find that not all brothers and sistahs smoke weed. Like not all are vegans. This veiw by some that all freaks are just herb heads is a one sided veiw.Threw the years i have seen many phamily who in the past smoked and do not any more. And those who have never and wont in the future for it is not there path to do so.To say that it goes hand and hand is not realy true. Not all sistahs and brothers feel the same about ever issue. Some just support hemp and some smoke and support the hemp issues.Hope this helps. ------------------ "The Divine in me blesses & honors the Divine in you!" I don't think hippie's and pot go hand in hand. I think it's people and pot go hand in hand. I have never found any major difference in opinions between the populace as a whole and hippies I know pleanty of hippies that refuse to touch the stuff. do a testing group of a random selection of the populace and hippies. And before you do all of this it might be a good idea on defining the term "hippie" as we have tried to do so many times before on this forum (never coming up with a definate answer). |

I keep gettin called a hippie, i dont smoketh the 'erb. Once upon a time i used to love it. I personally prefer methamphetamine. But then again, just because i get called a hippie, doesn't mean i am one.I guess hippies wouldn't touch powders. But it does depend on your definition of a hippy. |

I also don't think weed and hippies go hand in hand, because you don't need weed to think like a hippie. some people just use that to get deeper in to theirselves or just for what ever reason. |

Hey, I think that smoking pot and being a hippie are completely different things. Smoking pot for most people is just an activity not a way of life where being a traditional hippie is a way of life, however like indians and gangsters some smoke pot to enhance regular pleasures. for the most part i feel offended when people call me a pot smoking hippie because I don't want to be categorized and put in to a stereo type its like saying all lesbians are angry, all jocks are stupid, or all asians are good at math and science, and rich people don't care. Don't listen to the mass or follow it because for the most part not many people perfectly fit and define the stereo types society places on people. |

I agree with everyone here. And if you look at what everyone wrote, you can conclude that there is no true definition of a Hippie, just your opinion.------------------ Increase the Peace, *~*Wildflower*~* |

Just because you say hippie doesn't mean drug user!! A hippie to me is just some one who is free-sprited and speaks from the heart no matter what the outcome. Some one who has letfwing ideas and stands strongly by them while others oppose them! ------------------ love me always, ~Dizz~ An Army~of~None~ NON~VIOLENCE IS~*~PEACE~*~ War does NOT show who is right! No way weed does not go hand in hand with hippies...what cracky said is right i think younger kids who want to be "hippies" or what is stereotyped as one will smoke, but bieng a hippie as many have said is a way of thinking and bieng, not by what drugs you do. Not that a LARGE number of hippies dont smoke weed, just saying that you can "be" whatever a hippie is without it. peace-Holly |

Not speaking for everyone... but most hippies aren't affraid to try things that will free their minds. I for one have tried it and it was ok but its not something that i got hung up on. Weed going hand in hand with hippies is another stereo type such as any group. Like rich people being snobs not all of them are but a majority are and that earns them the title as snobs just as hippies have earned the name pot heads. It's all a matter of the individual person. |

Being a hippie is a state of mind. Smoking pot is an action. Both are life styles. You can choose either road and yes, you can travel 2 roads at the same time. |

Being a hippie is not asking other people what to do to become a hippie. It's all about personal freedom, not one granted by the opinions of other people... Simply be yourself without stepping on other people's feet unless stepped on. So far, you don't seem to qualify and you should stick to a suit and tie and go find a useful job... Besides, in 20 years, you will find how dumb it is to ask such questions, and what the heck you were thinking to wanna be a hippie (smelly fee, lousy hair, and all those unrealistic dreams!!!)... But hey, people have to be brainwashed one way or another... So you might as well be brainwashed by the hippie utopia than some white supremacist one... |

as a friend of mine once put it:there are good hippies: those who care about the enviroment, love eachother, and are everything good about a hippie. and there are bad hippies: those who smoke weed, complain about "the man", and...smoke weed. simply put, there are good hippies and bad hippies |

Well I think being a hippy is just fine by me. I've been called one since my early teen years, an now I'm 38 an don't have any problems with me an the freedom I have being a hippy. The only draw backs I've found, is that when I have to go before a Judge in a court of law, an can't wear my normal hippie clothes, but ones that are way too formal for my liking, it makes me feel like a phony person. I'd rather be comfortable in my clothes than a nervous wreck, sitting in a suit, anytime an anyday !!! Lol. An the choice is anyone's, hippy or not if they want to smoke weed. I got no problem with it. |

hippies and weed dont go hnd in hand, u dont have to be a hippy and smoke it same as if you do smoke it doesn't make you a hippie. being a hippie is all about personal choise about what you believe, how you like to live and what you think is right. if you belive in hippy ways but dont smako weed then it doesn't make you n e less hippy than n e one else here. its just something that some like doing to relax or let out there creative side. peace xxxxx |

No, hippies and weed don't go hand in hand. I don't classify myself as a hippie but I do smoke the herb. But I'm not one of those stoners that give pot a bad name, either. I smoke because of the feelings and thoughts I can get and the way I can bond with my friends, not just because other people do it. Also I believe that weed has positive benefits for society like medicinal use. I have a pretty open mind about things, and the people here at the board, hippie or not, seem to share a lot of the same views that I do. There are plenty of people who are hippies that don't smoke, too. I used to have the misconception that hippies were just long-haired pothead treehuggers left over from the 60s, but in my time talking with the people on this site I realized that was completely wrong... They are simply peaceful people who think freely, who aren't afraid to try new things including weed, and express themselves. I suppose treehugging, and maybe vegetarianism, is a part of being a hippie (which are the two main reasons that I can't say I am one), but there's nothing wrong with that. I respect the lifestyle even though I might not agree, or fully agree, with everything that hippies stand for. Maybe I'm half-hippie, or on my way to becoming one All that to say that you don't have to smoke pot to be a hippie, and you don't have to be a hippie to smoke pot. |
