Hi,
i just moved and have a 3year-old indoor cat that would like to become an outdoor cat. Any ideas/suggestions on how to make this work would be much appreciated.

We let our cats go outside, but only if we are outside with them so we can watch them. I am sure if you go to the SPCA website, they can give you tips on what to do. They don't condone it, but they do educate you on what to do. I personally would make sure that your cat is up to date on his/her shots, and that they are fixed. Hope this helps you out

Good idea to put collar on with address tag + bell to alert potential prey, eg birds. Beautiful though cats are, they are supreme predators +can have quite an impact on local wildlife, often at higher densities than natural predators.

if you let your cats go outside, please do whatever it takes to keep them on your own property. I used to have a neighbor who liked to take in and feed stray cats, and I can't even begin to tell you how much of my property those animnals destroyed. Everything was constantly a disgusting mess, and it got to the point that if I hadn't moved i was considering trapping and relocating the cats. So as cute and nice as you may find cats, please understand that other people don't see them that way, and please respect that...

hey,
thanks for all the advice, esp. the bell - what a great idea!
I'll use a leash for awhile since she doesn't seem to mind that too much

i have four cats and we spend most of our time in a motor home. three of them do great on leashes and people get a kick out of it. when we are grounded i cant bring myself to let them ou by themselves though im too afraid something bad will happen.
