hey, you're right...new fabric is so expensive. I try to recycle old/outdated/2nd-hand clothes into something new...which usually turn into patchwork pants/skirts etc. Unfortunately, I haven't really sewed much else.peace |

Most fabric stores have a clearance section, which is where I buy 90% of my fabric. Most of the fabrics in big chain stores like Joanne Fabric and The Rag Shop will sell their clearance stuff for 70% off. You can usually find excellent stuff for $0.25 - $1.00 a yard. That's not expensive at all. You only need two yards for nice dress (depending on your size, of course.)Oh, I don't shop at Wallmart, but I've heard that their fabric section is fine, and I'll bet their sales are good as well. Peace. |

I usually go to thrift stores get some old clothes then try to add some patchwork or whatever to them. But I do go to walmmart and I bought about 15 yards of corduroy for only $30. So it's a pretty decent deal and it's good fabric. Good luck! |

I think you get what you pay for when you buy fabric. If you are scoping out the dollar bin make sure it is good quality fabric. The cost of the fabric should reflect in the price of your clothing. People are willing to pay a little more if they know your item including the fabric is good quality. Make sure you are on the mailing list at Joanns and stock up when stuff is on sale. Use those half off coupons on a quantity of fabric. Have fun sewing |
