Inspired by Kermit's post regarding free samples and the general shortness of financial freedom experienced by many here, I reccomend going to your library and getting Abbie Hoffman's "Steal This Book". There is much good information in there on creative ways to live and eat for very little or no money, and fuck the system at the same time so it feels good. Some of the details are outdated, since the book was written something like thiry years ago, but the principles and ideas are still very valid. While we're on the subject, he wrot some other books that are good too, including his autobiography "Soon to be a Major Motion Picture".

It's been YEARS since I read it. I remember being very impressed by the fact that if you are mailing a letter and don't want to pay postage and you put your own address on the "send to" spot and the recipients address in the "return" spot... than you don't need any postage.

I also have a vague memory of something about getting grapes from the store and putting them in the oven for a few minutes before returning them for money.

Good Stuff. I actually thought it was out of print. Guess not.

I like to patronize those big brunch buffets they have at the big hotels; it's great. Just put on some decent looking clothes like slacks and a sweater and it's all you can eat. Take your friends, too, that way you don't look like some dude who just wandered in by himself.

i love the book, especially the part where it says if you ask, the government will send you a buffalo. I'm SO tempted to try it, just to see what will happen, but yesyes i know it is outdated, buffalos are coming back, AND i would have nowhere to put it.
i love buffalos.
heehee anyway, yes i just wanted to uhm i guess say that that is an awesome book, i borrowed it from the library the last time i read it, but i'm planning on stealing it soon.
Peace ;) :D

The book can be had for free on the internet. Please don't steal from libraries; they exist to educate all of us and we all pay to support them. Fucking the system is all well and good, but some parts of it are pretty harmless and help a lot of people. Libraries are one...

Regarding screwing the system, everyone should consider the little people that it might be screwing as well. I work at a Domino's, and people frequently call and try to scheme to get free pizza. A girl called today and told me that she had placed an order days ago which was messed up, and she was promised free pizza. She had no order history and claimed that it was indeed the same number she had called from before, which would have confirmed her claim if she had a history. People also claim that their address on their check matches their location when in fact, it doesn't. It's very annoying when you tell someone repeatedly that it must match or they won't get their pizza, yadda yadda yadda. This leads to wasted, precious time, money, and car life for the drivers (not just the bigman, Domino's), who make most of their money from tips. Also please be nice to your food service personnel. People are so mean to me for no reason even when I'm trying my best to get their pizza out to them quickly.

Sorry for the ramble. I'm just getting sick of my job and dealing with rude and impatient people. I know that you should deal with the job you pick, but it was the only job I could find with the time I have. Plus, with finals approaching, it's hard to go job hunting.

So once again, if you're gonna screw over The Man, make sure you're not hurting his pawns that do the dirty work.

OK...uhm, whatever. They always have "day old" bread, and they sell it for a discounted price. If you're days on the road, and have no $$$ or food (whatever), try finding a soup pantry or going to a church (even I, the Heathen Pagan would do this). Better 'n stealin' from WalMart. And you can't exactly be screwin' the system if you're sittin' in jail, can you?
