Just kinda wanted to get this off my chest and let other people know the situation i'm in...

I go to college in Adrian, MI. Maybe 40 min from Ohio. It's a very small, dumpy town with NOTHING for college students to do. Every week I protest the war with the Lenawee County Peacemakers. I try to post flyers and get more students to come (i'm usually the only one that goes :( Isn't that sad???) but my flyers either get torn down the next day or vandalized. I have friends, but few of them share my views, and if they do, they're too lazy to come out and speak out against the war and whatnot. Or i'll try to play a documentary about different things like the School of America's in Georgia (by the way, have any of you ever gone to it? Maybe we saw eachother!) or some other shady thing about the government, and people don't want to watch them! I feel that no other students are as enthusiastic as i am about human rights issues. Do any of you live in a small, republican town that depresses you???

Well, I don't know about hippies, but I have an ex that live(s or d) in Adrian. He shares the same name of a pretty famous hippie though! Any guesses?

My guess is Jerry Garcia.

Yahtzee! The funny thing was, he'd never heard of the other Jerry, until he met me.

Well don't fear there Dove..... WE'RE YOU'RE FRIENDS!!!!!

And I'm so glad you're doing something about the war....

as ghandi has said: "we must become the change we want to see"

it's unfortunate that your friends won't participate in what they supposively believe in, don't let that discourage you... because good things come to good people in the end....

Just about every town here in TX is the "home town of W". So i know what you mean. And Mamma is right, you've got friends here. :)

Yes me too...I live in Bush country. Not Texas but it is "Land of gun racks" and "kill 'em all let God sort 'em out" -I *heart* RUSH-ditto heads. In fact they dont do the groundhog thing here, they pop there heads outta their back-sides and take a peek at the sky, "5 more weeks of winter." However I find that "we" the tree hugging, anti war, free thinking' former hippie types, kinda project a vibe. We know who each-other are. I'm past the age where I am around friends all the time, but.....I understand what it's like to be the only one who seems to be aware of things. You know, they make natural gas have an odor so you'll be aware of it and know that you are in danger.>> Neo-con policy should smell half as bad as it stinks.<< OOOOH starting to rant....sorry. Uh, anyways I am raising a son. A cool little dude. A young enviromentalist, an activist. A smart, loving caring little dude who someday will do wonderful things. Passing the torch so to speak... and he will hit the ground running......can I get an AMEN?

I'm from Texas. You guys know that W Bush was born in Connecticut, right?

(Let me write a disclaimer saying that yes, I know Texas is still pretty much Bush land.)

Thanx, guys! Yea, there is a small number of hippies here, and they're great. Too bad they're all people that are way older than me, but they are young at heart :) There's maybe two other students that are hippie-esque. Amen, peace frog! That's wonderful that you're bringing a peaceful, thoughtful human being into this world. God knows we need more!

Hey Dove, good luck with finding hippies there. You never know who they might be. They don't always look like hippies. All in the heart.

Peace,
Cass

(Let me write a disclaimer saying that yes, I know Texas is still pretty much Bush land.)Okay......so I guess you want us to re-direct the angry villagers carrying pitchforks and torches. Uh... actually I didnt know that, I guess I was refering to that little slice of heaven called Crawford, you know George's equivilent to Michael's Neverland. Also thanks DOVE you're very kind!!! ;) :)

Nah, you can allow the angry villagers to proceed. It's the same as Hank Hill (King of the Hill) being born in Yankee Stadium. "I became a Texan when I ate the worm!", he angrily declares. My dad always says, "I wasn't born in Texas but I got here as fast as I could" (I think that's an actual saying, though). Personally, I can't wait to get out. While I do live in a place (Denton) with alot of like minded college kids, the law here is pretty red in the neck.

Yeah I know Bush isn't Texan, and jeb isn't a Floridian either. but besides that, I live like 60 miles or so North of Crawford. The sky was a sight to see when W was in town. I have moved since then.

I live in a similar town in North Carolina Called reaford. No College worth mentioning but none the less red neck bush lovers. My plan is as soon as i turn eighteen i will move to Asheville, North Carolina. Ive been there a few times and not a moment passes when i dont think of going back. The college their is full of dread-locked free thinkers. Plus the mountains are beautiful.

Ya know, whats so bad about red necks and hicks, I happen to live in the country surrounded by "rednecks and hicks" and they are good people, caring, they even recycle and have teeth, holy shit!!!
Dont judge everyone like that, not all people who live in the country are whatever it is you think they are.

anyway you look at it, its judging and labeling and it bugs me!!

sorry to threadjack, but there was alot of name calling going on!!
hey I know a dreadlocked red neck too, did ya ever think that was possible!!!
Not a good hippy mentality if thats what your trying to go for!!!
grow up turn 18 get a car and go where the water tastes like wine!!
THE COUNTRY!!!!!!

oh yea i agree that there are some country hippies, i mean that's how i found my peacemakers group, and the catholic university that i go to (the catholics are the smallest percentage that actually go here) is really liberal. But, i can't help but say that there certainly are a lot of Bush voters here and it seems to be a trend in most rural middle-of -nowhere towns. oh well, you take what you can get, i suppose. Ann arbor is like 45 minutes away so i get my fix there.

As a few of the people on here know, my boyfriend of over a year ran out on me almost 3 months ago, and i was devastated. During the time we were together he didn't really like it when i went out so i ended up holing myself up with him in my house for most of our relationship, and for about a month after he left. When i did start to feel like i wanted to go out, i realized that i had lost touch with many of my friends as a result of me rarely leaving my house. I started going out again anyway and checking out live music. Live music puts everyone in a great mood, so find a few shows to go to and you'll have no problems making friends. Even if its a band playing at a bar, go and check it out. Alot of times local groups are great anyway.
