So I've been vegan for awhile and all is well and good but my dad wants me to compromise with him because he dussint think I'm getting enough proteins and things like that soooo he asked if he bought me hens from a farm near us if i would eat those eggs. Hmmm welllll I'm not really sure because I know thats commmpllllleeeaaattttllllllyyyy unveganly BUT the reasons I dont eat animal products is because of the way the animals are treated in the making of the products but If I got hens and took "good care of them" and we have acerage so that wouldnt be a problem ~ but I dont know what do ya'll think? Would that be ok orrr no?
Thanks and Peace

Thats your call, I eat eggs so sure its ok!! It just depends on you personally, freerange eggs are better no doubt. Do you like eggs??
Do what you think you should do, its your mouth that will be eating them, maybe he'd be ok if you ate more protien from other sources, beans etc.. there are lots of ways to get that in your diet without eggs or meat for that matter.
Just dont stick yourself to not eating things because its completely unveganly either, do what you like and dont worry about the label.

The crazy chicken lady can tell you too.

You get your own chickens to give you eggs, very cool. Its fresh, and you will be taking care of them. Next you need a cow for milk :D

You don't need to eat eggs for protein...unless you want to....There are sooooooooooo many foods that are ridiculously high in protein, soy products, beans, lentils, nuts if you do some research you'll find many more. The only thing that eggs have that you can't subsitute easily is B12 vitamins, you might want to take pills for that. I suggest you do some research and get creative, there is no need to compromise yourself. :) I also agree with Libra, just do what is right for u...don't worry about labels.

Yeah, who carex if you're a strict vegan or not... If you like eggs, eat'em. And the free range eggs from real chickeds living on real farms eating real food are a lot better than the supermarket stuff.

personally, i think that if you are keeping the chickens free range and they're treated good it's fine to eat the eggs....

I believe it's making a mockery of Animal Rights if you eat anything coming from an animal. I mean, you have not gotten the consent of the chicken to eat it's product, and until that chicken tells you "Yes, take my egg" I believe it's hyppocritical for you to take it.

You can get PLENTY of protein from other sources- Soy, greens, nuts, even non-gelatin pills.

You don't have to compromise your beliefs to fit into your Father's chosen lifestyle for you.

So I should not eat the eggs from my unmated hens? I should leave them in the nest boxes to go bad and explode and stink the entire area up?

Yes, that makes so much sense.......

After they explode the flies can lay eggs all over them and I can enjoy a bumper crop of flies.

Makes soooo much sense.......

Sheesh

I have 28 of my own free range chickens and I eat their eggs. When you see how chickens are first hand, I think you will come to realize that nature intended for us humans to eat their un-fertilized eggs. Chickens really arent very smart. I can guarantee that they dont care in the least what happens to their eggs right after they have laid. If anyone wants to argue this with, its a waste of time because I know this for a FACT. Chickens do not view eggs as their babies, they are not attatched to them, they dont cry when I take their eggs and eat them.

Get chickens of your own, they are wonderful! See how nature really is and dont worry about the "vegan" label, do what is right for you, not for a group of radicals.

I have 28 of my own free range chickens...
What breed do you have? Mine are free range, also. New Hampshire Reds and Rhode Island Reds.
