Mercedes has become a well established trophy of the elite. A symbol of prestige & wealth, with a price tag equivelent to that of most people's entire year salary, those who drive Mercedes-Benz are held in a class all their own. It's sick that something so superficial is held in such high regard.

Or you could move to a nicer country, like Germany, where everyone has BMWs and Mercedes and don't fear the burning bush

Simply owning an expensive car doesn't mean a person has class or taste. That said, many people with class and taste own expensive cars. If you hope others will think more of you because of your expensive car, you most likely have neither.

i love my car...it's an old rust bucket, it's nothing special, but it gets me from A to B and it's cute...i don't dig people like my neigbour who gets a new BMW of whatever every year......

this whole idea came about because of my current car situation. i'm stuck in a car loan with negative equity & am having financial hard-times due to numerous reasons, at no fault but my own. that said, i need to get out of my current loan but really can't. so i've been trying to think of ways. that's when i thought about simply asking for help. no one close to me has the means to help because we're pretty much all in the same boat, so i thought i'd try a fundraiser type thing. personally, if i could choose any car i wanted, it most likely would not be a benz.

i've never liked mercedes much just because they are so elite. i know you can buy one used for pretty cheap & the new ones are loaded...but $50k? that's crazy! i don't (completely) judge those who own mercedes, but i've definitely noticed many of their lifestyles, the way they interact with others, what they consider valuable, and what their main objection is. again, i know better then to put those assumptions on every benz owner, but there does seem to be a pattern.

this is the car i drive now...

so the stickering would jus come naturally. i love my stickers. i like giving people something to read, something to think about while they race from red light to red light.

stickers on a benz would just be funny. i think some would just be appalled that i would "ruin" something of such value. but it's just a car...

so that's what i framed the fundraiser around... taking the contrast out of the mercedes class. taking the value out of the merchandise.

i don't know...i still need to think this all through if i really want to put the effort into it. i just made that site last night, i want to re-write it a bit, so i need to get my thoughts together. i also realized last night that although this would solve one of my problems, it's only a ripple in the cause. so i thought if this ever did take off, i'd split the earnings dollar for dollar to a donation that deals with people of an even lower class then me...because although i might be struggling with being a single mom & trying to afford the cost to support myself plus my 2 kids, there are still people not nearly as fortunate as me. and although i could use the donation to get a car & get rid of the loan payment, i have no need for anything (other then a house) that costs $50k...i could easily split that with someone else.

so yeah, that's what it's about.

What? Huh? Hold up.

What's it about?

I do not think I got what I'm supposed to get from what you wrote. Here's what I got:

You can't pay your car loan and you think that it's indulgent or a false symbol of class and sophistication to drive an expensive car like the mercedes benz.

So, you want people to give you money in order to buy one of these cars so that you can put stickers on it Hotel California style- getting you both a new car and making a political statement against wealth. Like, maybe if poor people can get a mercedes than rich people won't want them anymore?

BUT, you won't get the benz. You'll have the fundraiser and instead of getting the car you've built the fundraiser around you will split the procedes with someone less fortunate? So you hope to raise 50 thousand dollars, but will give 25 to someone else?

I must be very confused?????????

^^^ I have a feeling you're not the one who's actually confused.

I kinda get what your saying, still confused though, so if you pay of your car and get money from people your going to then buy a expensive car so you can put stickers all over it and say ha ha I spent $50,000 on a car and put $50 worth of stickers all over it, take that benz driving freaks!!
Ok so that would be funny to see if they got it, but people would assume your mommy and daddy bought it for you and your some yuppy college brat that doesnt give a shit or respect anything and can just trash a $50,000 car and not care.
Well good luck with all that, I think you'll have alot to explain. I dont want to burst your bubble but I dont think you'll get very far, I wouldnt give $ for that I too need it who doesnt??

Someone's jealous, someone's jealous.

Hey, I don't know about you folks, but I intend to be filthy rich at least once before I leave this life... Don't hate the player, hate the game! Just 'cause someone buys a new expensive car (WHATEVER THE BRAND) every year DOES NOT NECESSARILY MAKE THEM ELITISTS.

Nearly *every* car company has a luxury line.

Then, there's that whole "inflation" thing.

It's one thing if your neighbor is buying a new car every year, throwing the old ones into a lake, and rubbing it in your face all the time... It's a whole different matter if your neighbor is buying a new car every year, throwing the old ones to the needy and less fortunate.

I am surprised that people in this place are so quick to judge based on appearances, and then so blithely over-generalizing to attack people with a better stock portfolio.

Don't hate the player, hate the game.

I'm going to play this game of life, where many people think the score is in this "money" shit that I don't give a damn about, and I'm going to be a damn high scorer.

You should, too.

With enough high scoring players, we can change the game.

yeah, you're all pretty much right. and it is really confusing. it's a good thought though...a good starting point, but i would need to go a lot deeper to really pull it off. and you're right in that people won't really get the point after the fact. and the only good it would do is get me a free car, and that's not really enough goodness to be deserving.

capitalism..corporate america...it's a tough thing. with the good comes the bad. it's good & needed...yet evil & distracting. so against it, yet so dependent.

how about putting all that "effort" into designing a web site asking for a job so you can pay for your own car? you can still give 1/2 of what you earn away if you want, it's only money! right?

I think it's just a matter of people buy what thier finances can afford.

Other eletist symbols...

Faberge eggs
High dollar athletic shoes
Big screen tv's
Designer jeans
Golf club memberships (lots of that around here)
Stores that have no prices on the products
Hotel suites

The list goes on..........
