I live with smokers, and I am noticing that my stuff is starting to smell like it! I already close my doors to my room and bathroom, but the smell seems to seep through still. I also febreeze everything and it doesn't seem to do the trick either. Short of going out and paying hundreds of dollars for an air purifier, what kind I do to rid of the smell? I know that my clothes smell good when I wash them b/c they come out smelling great when I clean them. I just want to keep them that way. so if anyone has suggestion, please bring them my way :) thank you

hey,
i've known some people who use the air cycle on their dryer (no heat) with bounce sheets for a couple minutes to make your clothes smell fresh. Or you can just wipe bounce sheets on your clothes...or use patchouli oil - that always smells nice :)

My husband and I used to live in a house with three other people, all of whom smoked one thing or another.

Where do that people who live in your house smoke?

We generally tried to contain the smoke and limit it to people's bedrooms. We had a "no smoking in common areas" agreement. Of course, it still snuck under the doors, but it wasn't as bad as it could have been. I actually did end up going out and spending hundreds of dollars on an air purifier.

Get beans, lots of beans! Start an air war! Beef liver for air supremacy, Then negotiate a truce. This... is your mission.... should you decide to accept it. ;) :D

I love Patchouly. One of my most favourite of scents. The old man hates it. Too bad for him. :p

check out ozium if you dont mind a spray can solution. it kills odors within 30 seconds literally. it uses ionized particles and has a very mild scent

otherwise, if you want a more earthy approach, check out nag champa. best incense to use, EVER

Actually I was just re-reading the original question...are you living in a HOUSE with these people and you have your own room and bathroom? What kind of building is it?

If it's a single house split up into apartments, is there just one furnace? Or are there radiators?

The smoke might be getting into the ductwork and being circulated by the furnace...better filters in the furnace might help the problem. The cheap filters might not catch all that junk. Plus I think you can also get a filter thingy to go on your supply air registers.

Maybe that'd help? If it's radiators then ignore everything I said, LOL

Thank you for the replies everybody!! I live in a 2 bed 2 bath apartment. Everyone smokes in the living room, which is the central area. We have a gas heater with ducts coming out at the ceiling. I am not sure if there are filters or not. I don't see any when I looked at the heating unit. What I am going to do is soak lavendar in a couple of cotton balls and hang them in my closet. I am using my coffee mug warmer as an oil burner with my candles. And yes nattywraps, I do use nag champa :) I did shop around for air purifiers, and I am going to purchase one in a couple weeks. They aren't as expensive as I thought.

... get some lavender, crush it up till its a fine-ish powder. Mix it with some baking soda and sprinkle it on carpet. leave for 20 mins then hoover it off. this will eliminate odours and leave a lovley lavinder fragrence behind.
