A nation obsessed with white chicks

My husband and i have had several evenings where the news coverage of a missing/murder event caused outrage, anger and even sorrow over the non-coverage of similar atrocities against non-white individuals. The anger and sorrow felt by the families of those whose personal tragedies are not covered is justified and can only add to the feelings of division and exclusion that can keep everyone looking at the world as "us" and "them". EVERY missing/murdered/mutilated person is worth hours, if not days and weeks of air time,
but if there cannot be a more even coverage, high profile cases should cease. Besides, I do not think it is healthy for a nation of people to spend hours every week enthralled by every twist and turn of such a case, when there are millions of people who have suffered and are suffering in our own communities. Example: in my community of about 1500 a 15 yr old girl was tied to a chair and beaten to death by her parents - news coverage? -a small article in a nearby community paper - no TV or radio coverage that I noticed....

I read a similar article on MSNBC last year.

IMHO - This is standard American fare. America is disgustingly discriminatory against people of color, people of different faiths, overweight people, women, gay people...the list goes on and on.
