"It's not known how aware parents are that recruiters are inside public high schools aggressively trying to lure their children into wartime service. But not all schools get the same attention. Those that get the royal recruitment treatment tend to be the ones with students whose families are less affluent than most. Schools with kids from wealthier families (and a high percentage of collegebound students) are not viewed as good prospects by military recruiters. It's as if those schools had posted signs at the entrances saying, Don't bother. The kids in those schools are not the kids who fight America's wars."

My son is in the fifth grade. They had army recruiters come talk to his class. They gave out free pencils, pens, calenders...I was livid.

Fifth graders? I think I would loose it if a recruiter was given access to my child with out my approval. Yet another reason to home school.

Mine is an "only child" he won't have to go....ever. He also goes to a Christian school, I think a recruiter would burst into flame at the door or something. Anyways being his father's son and comming into his own as a "wise guy" my son would be the one to raise his hand and ask," WHO WOULD JESUS BOMB???" GREAT TOPIC!!!! on the paper too ;)

Yes, luckily my son was not receptive to their ploys. I never would have thought I would have to worry about this at such a young age. The school gave us no warning they would be coming either. If other people want their kids exposed to that, fine. But i would have liked some warning so I could have kept him home that day and done something a bit more productive.
