Kermit, you say stuff that I just do NOT agree with. How can you state something like "there is no god" as if it's absolute fact? Sure, I don't believe in God, or Jesus Christ the Messiah, but at times I'll pray with the best of 'em. It can't hurt, can it? In fact, I wonder how people can look at this Earth and everything, everyone on it and think that something better than ourselves is not responsible. Everything on this earth (until we meddle with it) is in perfect harmony. There are enough wildebeest to feed the hungriest predatory cats, crocs, hyenas, and even the occasional hippo while still leaving enough to provide just enough protection for the species and to allow for healthy breeding. There are carnivorous plants that are found nowhere else in the world, designed specifically for the part of the world they live in. Look at us, human beings. We have no special talents, without tools, we would not be able to survive. I truly believe something is looking out for us, even though it might not be God, Jesus, or whoever. I think you should open your mind and try to see the world for its absolute magnificence and beauty, and then perhaps you'll see just how special this Earth is... how could something or someone not have aided in its perfection? But all this aside, putting down someone's belief in Jesus the Messiah is not cool. Even if there is no God (and who the hell will ever know for sure?!), instilling faith in something that you believe in and relying on this resovoir of hope can be just enough to pull people through the hard times, renewing them and showing them the sun once again. Is there any harm in that? And no, most normal people do not pray to themselves, praying out loud is a way to give substance to what you are praying for, and group prayer takes place all the time in churches, and in households... ever heard of 'saying grace'? I think you could benefit from some real soul-searching and opening up your mind to other people's thoughts and beliefs... yours are not the only right ones, in fact, they might be completely wrong. Have you thought for a second that the beliefs other people hold are just as valid as yours, and provide them with just as much strength as yours do? Instead of shooting them down, why don't you take them into consideration and even try them out... I thought the Tao Te Ching was bullshit until I actually read it... and guess who now is a practicing Taoist? Me. Your close-minded ways aren't healthy for anyone, especially yourself. So please, grow up and realize that you don't know it all.

I already have my faith, but in the recent years out of curiosity/fulfillment, I have been doing fairly basic research on the various faiths. beliefs...systems... Are you a practicioner of a larger religion or more of a non-denominational? I am always willing to learn more, gather new ideas, but not really wanting to switch/claim a religion as a whole. Maybe between us and a few others we can evolve this into an educational type thread. I cant really say christian thread because a lot of non christian practices make sense to me, although some contradict what I believe I'll start out without too much in the way i believe so hopefully it will get conversaton going
A lot of my pals study the bible like you would a textbook, their ministers/teachers/priests basically give them lessons... I found this difficult, it is a bit more practical to me to read excerpts based on whats happening around me, I have a couple texts of scripture arranged by "what ails ya" and such, so if you have money troubles it can help you find what you need. Although they admit this way works out well, their teachers dislike it because they are slaved to whatever systamatic approach works for them. For them, it works, I can't knock that. It bugs me when they say I am studying it wrong......

Well, personally, I come from a very mixed background... My father is athiest; my mother and my stepmother are catholic, but my step mother is ROMAN catholic. To further add to the confusion I lived with my grandparents; lutheran and protestant, respectively. I grew up with friends who were mormon, athiest, christian, pagan, and more. Me, I'm just crazy.

I've had to read from the bible... I've chosen to read from the bible. I've seen epic fucking debate from intelligent net entities from when I was a little nothing on the net all the way to my semi-net-presence about religion from basically EVERY ANGLE... Theological debates have been going on forever and always will be; but debate can be fun and constructive and helpful... maybe even if it isn't personally to YOU and you think the discussion ongoing is shit - maybe it's helping someone else out. In the end, though, it will eventually degrade... but that's forum life. Lately, I've been doing a fair amount of reading from the internet sacred texts archive. You should check it out.

Censorship doesn't help, though.

It's just words on a page - half of them aren't true anyway.

even in a non theological topic it's always better for everyone involved if a decent debate can ensue, rather than butting heads with two completely opposing viewpoints. cowboy, we can turn this into a very good educational thread...... you know the u.s' constitution or billof rights or whatever,, says we have freedom OF religion, not freedom FROM religion...... i think that it would be a great idea to have a section put up on the site in the forums whaer those of us who are not ashamed to be children of the lord can go and talk about joys, conflicts, stories of blessings and salvation.... and also a salvation thread for those lost sheep too proud to ask for help from their own families or people around them... i think that if Christ's followers were made more available to more people, that more people may learn more about the Lord...

I find this hard to believe. Christians judge other people every day for decisions that they make.. sex outside of marriage, homosexuality... I have actually never met a person more judgemental than a Christian. We're sinners, we're going to hell because we're gay, because we don't choose to get married, or have sex with our boy/girlfriends? If there was no judgement, then it would be OK to be gay and marry the one you love, or have sex with whomever you choose to. If Christians don't judge, then why isn't gay marriage legal; why is it looked down upon by the Pope, why are there protests? I don't have a religion, and I personally could care less if homosexuals get married... good for them, in fact, I think it's a good idea! The love gays feel for each other is no less real, no less pure than a straight couple... why the discrimination? Are they not being judged for being gay?

I'll try to handle this on third person-ish, so these views will not appear to be those of the author

as far as the homosexuals marrige and the church's views thereof, there are numerous passages in the bible about marriage being the union of a man and a woman. To go against this practice would be in contempt of the scripture, which is believed to be the word of god, breathed through men. you can also take into account passages concerning sodomy, which never resulted well for those partaking of the act.

as far as christians being judgemental, as i said before, i get ridiculed a lot. I usually use this as a springboard and kinda get the point across i might know more than they thought i did. If they are indeed judging you, then i don't really find them christians, The judging is done by the higher power. A true believer will stand up for their beliefs, and share that with you.

if they judge you tell them you are following in jesus footsteps, associating with the diseased, prostitutes, criminals, deviants, outcasts, and you insist on taking a stand on all those who oppress you and mock you for what you believe in, even though it may not be popular opinion. If it gets you beaten, jailed, tried and convicted and then led naked through the streets, filled with a battery of people who hate you and lash out at you, culminating in your death, then so be it.

That's not exactly what I want to say but it's the best I can do... Like, I know a few Christians who, when one of my other Christian friends told them that he was gay, just kind of shrugged their shoulders and said "well, that's not my bag, but if that's what you want to do... and you know what the Bible has to say about homosexuality." But most (as in all but two) completely stopped speaking to him, after reaming him out for about half an hour, reducing him to tears. "You are a scumbag, you're going to hell, I hope you burn for eternity, blah, blah, blah." I mean, I went to youth group for a good three years (which is a really long time for me....), met all of the above ^^ people, then some really great people and some maniac-worshippers, and so I know that a lot of people aren't like that, but an equal amount of them are. I just don't think that Christians are as non-judgemental as they think they are, and many tend to get a high and mighty attitude about their religion which I just don't agree with.

both of you, i beleive to be a bit confused. i feel that i must repeat myself in saying that the Lord, our God doesnot hate the sinners but only the sins they commit... we ar all children of God it is merely a matter of wether we choose to accept God's love into our hearts. i have been through the troubles of sexual sins and can share some good news with you now..... sexual sin is not the worst that can be commited in the eyes of the Lord. it is by faith and not works of the hand that your spirit/ your soul is saved. on judgement day, God will not count the number of good and bad works you have done... your faith in Christ and your trust in God will be the only thing that will matter. sins are forgiven through the blood of our Lord, Jesus Christ. any other questions shall have to be brought up seperately as i have run dry of words for now.... peace and of course God be with you in your days and ventures.... amen...

you do have a point.... christians are not supposed to judge others as they will be judged exactly the same on judgement day.... i cannot speak against them.... but do be careful if taking advice from them... i cannot say why and also cannot say how or when but they seem a bit blured of they eye.... this is all i can say about them.


this high and mighty attitude is most certainly not what is called for by our Lord... if i may suggest praying and asking for help from God both for you and for your friend... he will be judged as everyone will... but if he wants to change his life around to serve the Lord, he may still have a chance... they were wrong in judging him and they will suredly be judge the same unless they have asked for forgiveness.. i have a card that i can type up on this forum if your friend would like to become saved.. ask him and if he would like help, i will do whatever it takes to get him serving God.

Kermit, you say stuff that I just do NOT agree with. How can you state something like "there is no god" as if it's absolute fact? Sure, I don't believe in God, or Jesus Christ the Messiah, but at times I'll pray with the best of 'em. It can't hurt, can it? In fact, I wonder how people can look at this Earth and everything, everyone on it and think that something better than ourselves is not responsible. Everything on this earth (until we meddle with it) is in perfect harmony. There are enough wildebeest to feed the hungriest predatory cats, crocs, hyenas, and even the occasional hippo while still leaving enough to provide just enough protection for the species and to allow for healthy breeding. There are carnivorous plants that are found nowhere else in the world, designed specifically for the part of the world they live in. Look at us, human beings. We have no special talents, without tools, we would not be able to survive. I truly believe something is looking out for us, even though it might not be God, Jesus, or whoever. I think you should open your mind and try to see the world for its absolute magnificence and beauty, and then perhaps you'll see just how special this Earth is... how could something or someone not have aided in its perfection? But all this aside, putting down someone's belief in Jesus the Messiah is not cool. Even if there is no God (and who the hell will ever know for sure?!), instilling faith in something that you believe in and relying on this resovoir of hope can be just enough to pull people through the hard times, renewing them and showing them the sun once again. Is there any harm in that? And no, most normal people do not pray to themselves, praying out loud is a way to give substance to what you are praying for, and group prayer takes place all the time in churches, and in households... ever heard of 'saying grace'? I think you could benefit from some real soul-searching and opening up your mind to other people's thoughts and beliefs... yours are not the only right ones, in fact, they might be completely wrong. Have you thought for a second that the beliefs other people hold are just as valid as yours, and provide them with just as much strength as yours do? Instead of shooting them down, why don't you take them into consideration and even try them out... I thought the Tao Te Ching was bullshit until I actually read it... and guess who now is a practicing Taoist? Me. Your close-minded ways aren't healthy for anyone, especially yourself. So please, grow up and realize that you don't know it all.

Yes, this is true, but he made a lot of us feel like he was trying to convert us/save us/generally throw his religion in our faces, and that's not cool, no matter what the topic happens to be. I was all for his prayer, I thought it was pretty, but then it turned into a whole ordeal with "accept Christ or be thrown into the fiery pits of hell" which turned me off.
