I just bought these to jam with my friends at school, they should be fun. Anyone ever play these before? I play the djembe so Im guessing it should be semi similar.

I play hand drums and I love playing doumbek (aka darbuka). It's played horizontally rather than vertically like the djembe. You play it across your lap (with the bulge of the drum resting in your crotch) with the open towards your left if you're right handed and towards your right if you're a southpaw. I've heard this instrument is older than the chair. I have a few metal ones from Israel, but my fav is my cobalt ceramic one that I got from www.mid-east.com
The quick and dirty guide to the doumbek is a good introduction. http://www.blackroot.org/drumming/drumming.html
And this is a good site about the differences of goblet drums.
