A nice thick curl is enough for me.
Our surf here in Vero gets good every once in awhile, but nothing like that... I'd say on average in the summer it's like 2-2.5 feet, about waist high and in winter about 4-5 feet, chest to overhead... but (call me a wimp, there are people paddling out in Alaska in the middle of December!!) it gets too cold to surf then! Whenever a hurricane passes by but doesn't hit us, it might get good for a day or two...
One of the surfing magazines (I can't remember which) gave Florida the award for "Most Consistently Poor Surf"... what an honor...

I'm not surfing anymore, because I'm expecting, and I can tell you, if you don't surf for awhile, your bones start to ache for the beach. It's probably the most fun sport in the entire world... of course, I'm biased, but coasting down the face of a wave and looking at the water under your feet is just awesome, and you don't have to worry about getting hit in the face with a ball, or another person. But it definitely helps to be able to swim, lol! My only complaint is that I'm a chicken when it comes to sharks, and they like to hang out at the Inlet sometimes.
