We don't have an IKEA near where I live but their online catalog has got me wanting to make the trek to one. Any IKEAholics here? What's the quality of the stuff?
I mean, is it cute but really cheap and falls apart right away? Some of the sideboards and stuff look AWESOME in the online catalogs but I know how that goes...
I certainly don't want to drive all the way to Chicago and find out it's a bunch of junk...

I know a lot of people who make fun of IKEA quality but I will tell you that I bought a bed and dresser from them 2 years ago and they are still in brand new condition. No complaints from me.

I love IKEA. My husband and I bought quite a bit of furniture there last year. Chairs, a couch, coffee tables...We bought it because it is so affordable, we thought it would just be something temporary until we could afford something more expensive. I've been really impressed with the stuff from IKEA. It's still in great condition, and we have a toddler, a dog, and a cat that all love to climb and spill stuff on the furniture.
The Chicago store is definitely worth a trip. The store has so much more stuff than they show in their catalog, or online. Lots of kitchen stuff, and just cool little trimkets. If it's really far from you, make it a weekend trip. It takes a whole day to go through the store. IKEA is really close to the Woodfield Mall, which, once upon a time, was the biggest mall in America. I hate malls, and even I enjoy that one.

There's a huge IKEA store right next to the Mall of America. I know it's probably not as close as the one in Chicago to you, but you could always make a side trip out of going to the Mall of America. I'm sure you could find neat stuff at either place for your new pad.

We bought some IKEA chairs and things for my workplace and they work pretty well, pretty easy to put together, too.

We have bought alot of items from Ikea, and never had any problems. The thing we like about Ikea is it's pretty much the only place (target has jumped on it though) that sells "modern" furniture. And my wife and I are into the Mod scene, so it beats the long thrift store and estate sale hunts for a specific item.
