So, I've been torturing myself and looking at condos...I may be able to sell my house sooner than I think and I'd like to be able to move quickly if the time comes...

Found a building doing an apartment to condo conversion and there's quite a few units available, both one and two bedroom. The two bedroom ones run $60,000 more than the one bedroom. Of course they also have two bathrooms...

Personally I could get by with one bedroom and one bathroom, being single and not going to have any kids.

They have lofts so I'd make the loft like a media room and I'd put a futon up in there. I'd sleep up there if I had an overnight guest (who needed a seperate bed.. :o ).

You know, I think I just made my decision, lol

If I buy a one bedroom, unit 420 is one of the available ones...(snork)
:bandit:

If you're looking to rent the other room out or keep the place for a while and possibly expand your family then go for the 2 bedroom. If it's just going to be you and you'd move before letting anyone else move in then I'd go with the one bedroom. Might also want to talk to your realtor and see if people are having trouble selling 1br vs. 2br?

For $60,000 you could build a very comfortable houseboat.

a good info source:

Handmade houseboats: Independent living afloat by Russell Conder publ. 1992
although a little dated, it gives excellent advice on how to go about making your own space and covers the basics of onboard systems needed on a boat.

i've been noodling this idea for a few years and may be able to help with any questions you might have.

p.s.: with the technologies available today you could make it an extremely eco-friendly habitat.

In Wisconsin houseboats are really heavily regulated and I want to say they aren't allowing any new ones.. I looked into it a few years back.

Same here, I bought my house with land, 3 bedrooms full basement, nice house for $89,000. I am glad I live in the country though, I can see it must be so much easier in the city. But to pay that much more for convienence or 1 bedroom seems crazy. Id probably go for the extra room though, your already paying alot, and extra space is always good to have.
