No, not zombies; America! I had an interesting discussion today that got me thinking; is our current state of affairs the result of evil political regimes, or does the root lie in the people of America? I tend to believe the problem comes from the people; that politicians and corrupt business have used our weakness, apathy, greed and social blindness to corrupt America from the inside out. At this point, the government is only a poisoned spearhead for an entire flock of sheep, ready at any time to be molded into a fountain to spew whatever filth we've been taught on any given day.

media manipulation, watered down education, and fear of 'terrorists' has allowed the 19th century minds do to this country what the Church did to Europe in the middle ages aka: "The Dark Age."
Americans are good; politicians (lawyers by training, liars by profession) are the problem. re: Amendment XXX in Politics, it's a starting point.

That's very true. All of this patriotic propaganda... the only ones I know that haven't fallen prey to it are those that have travelled outside the country or routinely take mind-expanding hallucinogens. All of this "God Bless America" and "Support Our Troops" crap came about after 9/11 and all of the speeches and advertisements sponsored by the government. A lot of people I know are now afraid to travel outside the country ('aren't you afraid you're going to be murdered?' 'Well, not more so than if I lived in a city.' 'Wow, you're so brave...') and when I tell them I want to move to Spain, they look at me with either hatred or extreme puzzlement. The Middle-Eastern people at my school have their own, small, largely ignored group and at times even shoved in the hallways and stuff at my school... it makes me sick. When I was in Argentina, they told me that they thought that our government was horrible and that they despised George Bush and looked suprised when I agreed with them, and then became considerably more friendly towards me and said that the Americans that travel to Buenos Aires look down on them in their own country. We've become so "proud" to live in America we've shut out all other countries and ideas from different cultures and I can't wait to get away from it.

I agree with all of you.
I've looked into moving to Canada and becoming a citizen. Hopefully I'll follow through with that in the future, but for now I plan on "disappearing" from the eye of the government and public. Not that I've been in trouble, but I think most of you understand what I mean.

I too am looking into leaving America seriously, though I'm more interested in some of the EU countries where I'd like to go to school and get my foot in the door to residency. From the research I've done, it seems like a complicated thing to do, but I feel it's worth it. Maybe we should have a thread on the topic, in order to share info...

I'm thinking about moving to Spain... Southern Spain, though, not northern Spain where those terrorists get their kicks. Of course, I have no money to get there, but it's a nice thing to work towards :)

If I had to choose to leave and not be close to Amerika (like Canada or Mexico) I would either choose a Pacific island or where my ancestors came from: Ireland. Probably more Ireland seeing that the IRA isn't much of a threat anymore (unless I've been hearing wrong). But then again, I wouldn't mind being a kane or a kahuna on a small island.

I really want to go to Ireland, it looks so pretty! I tried to teach myself Gaelic about a year ago but it went nowhere, because it's pretty confusing... My biggest dream is to live in a hut on an island and surf all day long, but somehow I think that might have to wait until I retire... :( The Mediterranean is gorgeous too, but plagued with constant tourists, and with Vero being a huge tourist area, I know I don't want to be around that permanently (They drive like snails and cut you off!)

Mind-expanding? I thought most drugs caused health problems including brain damage.

Yeah, nice job listening to all of the crap people try to scare you with; I guess it's working, maybe you should talk to some people who aren't biased or totally conservative or shoving marijuana into the same category as crack cocaine. Perhaps you should do your own research instead of listening to the exaggerated anti-drug propaganda circulating just about everywhere.
If taken responsibly and in appropriate doses, drugs like mushrooms, marijuana, and LSD can help give you a new perspective on life, or at least provide you with a rewarding, unique experience... I've had my fair share of all three and I'm perfectly fine, in fact, better for it. I've actually never heard of anybody having any health problems from eating mushrooms or dropping acid. I'm not advocating heroin or crack, but a lot of drugs aren't addictive and won't hurt you if you do them responsibly and with other people that you trust.
