A new topic of conversation~

I am trying to keep up with the whole aftermath of Katrina and it seems like the buck is being passed to everyone from the mayor to the president to this FEMA guy. I am a little disheartened b/c when the whole thing with 9/11 went down, we made sure that we were bombing other countries in a heartbeat to avenge what happened to us. But a natural disaster happens and it takes them days to get to the victims. I know that it was a category 5 before it hit, but don't you notice that they usually categorize hurricanes as being 5 until it actually hits the shore? And the National Guard and other military people that were being called in are so tired b/c they are in another country helping other people that WE made a mess in. I work with a lot of conservative people, and they are all defending GW, and I just close my mouth b/c I am not educated on the issue. If I am misinformed in any way, please let me know.

What do you mean by that? Hurricanes usually lose strength when they hit land. So it might be a Cat 5 when it's swirling in the warm waters of the Gulf, but once it hits land the wind speeds will decrease as it loses strength...

Not that I can recall, both Frances and Jeanne were category 2s at sea and then 3 when they hit land, I'm pretty sure, and Ophelia has been a cat. 1 all the way through. Actually, not many storms get to category 5 levels at all, even at sea, a category 5 at all is pretty rare. Ivan was a four all the way through, and Charley was a 3 and then downgraded to a 2 once it hit land... Hurricane categories are entirely based on windspeed, so the Hurricane Center wouldnt' categorize any storm as a 5 unless it met the requirements (windspeed of 145+ mph).

Yeah, our armed forces have definitely been stretched and George Bush is definitely losing popularity among the people, I think his most recent approval rating was only 37%?
