Anyone have experience with them? I'm thinking of starting a worm bin when I get settled back on the west coast... Great waste disposal, and no smell if you don't put things that rot before they eat them, PLUS you can use their casings in your ferts :). Cheap to start, not too much work initially, and then coasts along with a nice population which self-regulates.

Yes, plants grown in a mix rich with worm casts are very healthy, and also disease resistant, but, atypically, I am more interested in the trash factor... These little buggers can and will eat down most everything and fast. Reduces your garbage (and thus the total garbage heading to a landfill) by a lot, and that's good for everyone!
From what I've found on the subject, it seems very economical all around... Just wondering if anyone here has any first hand experiences :).
But yes... Bat guano can be an effective soil fert for plants that don't nitrogen burn :).

I do simple composts, just throw kitchen scraps on the ground, add some leaves and a few sticks. Water it when it gets dry. They attract worms pretty good.
I left a bag of rabbit manure lying on the ground once, for a few weeks. When I went to use the manure it was loaded with worms. They made their way right through the bag and into the manure.
However, I'm getting a small flock of chickens in the spring, so goodbye little worms :( Hello eggs!:)
Peace,
