Does anyone else see the writing on the wall? To me, these latest hurricanes in the south are like the great parables I was taught in sunday school ie, the great flood, parting of the red sea, feeding the 5000, acts of a supreme being to show us who is really in charge. I mean I hear all kinds of stuff about removing/not removing the 10 commandments, no prayer in schools, but no one says anything about these natural disasters being ACTS OF GOD. I just see it as someone(great spirit/supreme being) showing us how we have our priorities screwed up. And now its in the state of TEXAS. Is this ironic? Where one fifth of our domestic oil/gas comes from. And you can't even evacuate without running out of gas. And NO GAS/OIL has been exported out of IRAQ! since we went to war!(gas sells for 5 cents a gal. in IRAQ, and they are on a gas rationing program). Over 600 BILLION SPENT in IRAQ, and we can't seem to help all these victims of the hurricanes. I guess it just matters who your giving the $$$ to...tax cuts to the richest 1% of our country, while you and I pay for the war, to companies like HALIBURTON/LOCKHEED-MARTIN/KELLOGG-BROWN-ROOT, guess who they are? who your supporting? The terrorists that we are at war with must really be laughing at us. We can't even help our own. Does anyone here feel any safer since 9/11? I sure don't. And I don't expect this administration to be able to help me, cause by the example I see happening in the south, looks like the blind leading the inexperienced, to tell the masses to FOLLOW ME! I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING, and BROWNIE, HE'S(was) DOING a HECK of a JOB...??? me thinks SOMEONE is DRINKING TO MUCH! thats why I'm "IRATE"

And lastly, these hurricane patterns have been going on for centuries. They cycle thru 30 to 40 years or more, getting worse, then better. A brief review of your history classes will confirm. (If you're over 40 anyway, if not, you'll have to learn it on your own, as many of the fundamental things are not taught any more in public schools.)
You obviously don't know (or refuse to accept the fact that) people want you DEAD. They want you dead because you're NOT a muslim. That's EXACTALLY why, and this has ALSO been going on for centuries. The Muslims have tried many many times over the centuries to conquer the world with Islam and failed. They will fail this time as well provided we, as a free people, see it and deal with it.
You've got your head so far up your ass you can't think straight, (anal cranium inversion), come out and take a breath. Companies like Halliburton, Lockheed Martin, Northrup Grummand and the likes have been doing business with the government and military for DECADES. They aren't in the pockets of people like Bush or Cheney or the terrorists. They were there for the likes of Carter, Clinton, Bush I, Reagon and Bush II.
I feel MUCH safer since 9/11. Have you seen any other attacks on US soil since then? Me either. But I've heard of plans that were found and thwarted since then. So I think we're doing an OK job so far. (We sure could use a more secure border, but that's coming too)
BTW, are you so ignorant that you believe that shrub knew how lousy of a job Brownie did when they first got together that day? (I bet you just need your daily dose of "bush sucks no matter what") I have done the same thing many times, congradulate someone for doing a good job only to find out later things were not as they seemed. Shrub then did the right thing by asking him to step down.
As for not expecting the government to help you, you're absolutely correct. It ain't gonna happen. That's been very clear for decades as well. First responders are, (ready for this???) YOU! It is up to you to take care of yourself in an emergency long enough to allow for outside help, which, as you've seen, can take days/weeks. So be prepared.
BTW, ignorance is NOT a good way to be prepared. Food, water, gas, radio, light, guns and ammo, cash and a plan for your family/friends ARE good ways to be prepared.
OMG, GUNS???!!!
Oh, one more thing, bonehead... the tax cuts were for EVERYBODY! EVERY SINGLE PERSON I KNOW GOT ONE. And, like shrub said, it greatly strengthened the economy. We should have, by all rights, been in a depression after 9/11. We did just the opposite.
As for the cost of oil, well, nobody knows where it will end up. One thing is for sure though, many MANY more people today are looking at alternatives. They will become a reality soon.

I know when traggic things happen i always think of the end of the world and all the people who have said these things would happen but really its enviromental, the earth changes, weather changes, people change,
It does scare the hell outta me though, its overwhelming I couldnt imagine going through that and I would expect to take care of myself and my family and I would not depend on the government to do so quickly.
Gas, shit thats a whole nother thread, I dont understand it, how the whole system works, prices, etc... Its all way to political.
I know I make out good with my taxes, being a single mom I cannot complain so far, I get back what I pay and it helps ALOT, it be better not to pay so much to begin with but that wont change.
Everyone is entitled to there own opinion, and hopefully I dont get called ignorant, maybe I am to an extent and maybe I want to be, I almost feel safer that way.

I'm sorry, but that's some serious crap. The cause of these storms is nature herself simply running in patterns and cycles, with the real possibility that our contribution to global warming has thrown things off balance. Attribute it to a god if you want, but I think you'll have better luck living in the real world.

Seriously, why are you here? Why come to a hippie forum when you obviously disagree with many of our beliefs? Did you come here to show us the "error" of our ways? If you did, I'm sure you know that a strongly held belief is just that; it is strongly held. I'm sure you're smarter than that. You can't possibly believe you're going to change our minds. Any more than we will be able to change your mind.
The only other reason I can figure why you might be here is just to get a rise out of us. And to that reason I say, why? I mean you don't seem like a dumb guy. Why waste your time trying to goad a bunch of hippies?
Seriously. Enlighten me. Tell me what your intentions are. Why the fuck are you here? Because it sure isn't because you are a happy hippie.
I don't come here to deal with or listen to the likes of you. I can do that any fucking day of the week. I come here to talk to like-minded people. As far as I'm concerned you're a stain. So, please prove me otherwise and tell me some REAL reason you're here, other than to aggravate people.
I am not at a redneck republican website trying to aggravate them. I guess that makes me a better person. At least more mature.
So, what gives? Why do you feel the need to come here on OUR territory and insult our intelligence?

"brownie" was the former head of FEMA who basically screwed up the response to Katrina. George Bush said to him in the midst of the storm, "Brownie, you're doing a great job"...or something to that effect.
I think his last name was Brown...

So, Kath... did you like, you know... READ my posts? Or was it too confusing and didn't fall in line with your sheltered view of the world?
Just curious if you pulled one or two easy to read words out and came to the conclusion that I'm trolling? Was my post really too hard for you to understand? There's information there for Iratehippy to ponder in response to his moon-bat, tin-foil hat wearing, kool-aid drinking, head in the sand approach to life, although I doubt he'll take it seriously enough to actually do just a tiny bit of research on to see for himself.
It seems you're headed down that same path of ignorance. The truth is out there if you'd care to know it. If you don't want to know it, do me a favor and don't reply to my posts when I'm discussing it with someone else.
Just so you'll know, I've never been in the military, I didn't vote for Bush until the last election, or any other republican for that matter, I used to be part of the Rainbow Commune in Douglas County, Oregon when I was younger. It's out on Smith River Road between Yoncalla and Cottage Grove. Anyone familiar with them will know names like Beat-farmer (no, not the band) a crazy fucker with a glowing green thumb, or Jean Olmstead. Her son, Eric, (now dead) was my best friend in Ore. I used to think the same way many of you do. Then I realized there is more to this world than just getting stoned and fucking your brains out and pretending there's nothing bad going on in the world.
It happened shortly after my first son was born and I started thinking about his future. I started seeing a pattern. A pattern of hate. The kind of hate that seems to take precidence over this country's safety and livelyhood. The hate was coming from the political left. It is everywhere. They're so hell bent on making making their point, that they're forsaking the country that made it possible for them to speak their mind freely without the threat of retaliation from the government. There are many extreme people that will do what ever it takes to make the administration look bad. Even to the extent of risking the safety of the entire country.

I never, once said you were trolling. I simply asked you why you were here. You have not answered my question. Again, you are reverting to insulting my intelligence. I did not insult yours. If you do not respect me I shall not respect you.
I did read your post. That is not what I'm referring to. I am simply asking you to come forth with WHAT your intentions are here. Are you here to show us the error of our ways and tell us how stupid we are or are you just here to get a rise out of us?
You will not convince me I am wrong, anymore than I will convince you that you are wrong. It is FUTILE.
As far as I am concerned,
You.
Are.
Not.

Good point! I think in this day and age it's tough to be a happy hippie, unless you stick your head in the sand and pretend like nothing bad ever happens... Personally I'd love to be happy, but there are so many people doing their best to fuck it up for me that I'm pissed! Of course, on a day to day basis I do my best to be positive and take a good attitude, but I really can't be happy deep down about the state of affairs in the world today. Maybe one day when I'm able to escape all of it and put it behind me I'll be truly happy... :hippie:

Yeah, there's a lot of crap going on nowadays that really just sucks, and it kind of gets me down, like drilling in the alaskan wildlife refuge and pollution and human overpopulation and such, not to mention being part of this country while it's being run by a talking gorilla who wants to be king... but I tend to be happy most of the time until something really irks me.

my "ignorance" has let me build my own home (which I milled most of the lumber for) set up my own hydro electric power plant, from truck/cat parts, also have solar panals, cause the sun, is like still up there...,all that I have is worked for/paid for...I helped start and worked in reforestation cooperative(still do), for something like 25 years of tree planting on the clearcuts(maybe a million trees, personally) of the pacific northwest, conepicking, thinning etc... I helped start a local food buying club that is still going now on 35 yrs, so we get our food in bulk...I helped build a community center which has housed a community private school for about as many years, and there are still a few communes out here, some of us still grow our own,food,etc,...
