Hey there everyone! I just wondered if there were any other barefooters out there especially from the UK. Last summer I started to go barefoot alot after never having the courage to do so before. I'd like to hear some other peoples experiences of going barefoot and the sort of reactions you've had. I've never met any other barefooters here in the UK so I'd love to hear from you.

I'm barefoot now......Why did it take courage to go barefoot? Do your feet stink? Do you have fungi? Or do you work at a shoestore? Anyways I hope things are getting easier, just take it one sock at a time.

You'll be a tenderfoot at first, then your soles will get toughened up.
The biggest obstacles of barefooting is black top roads and parking lots (hot hot hot in the summer). Stores may ask you to leave. Lawns with stickers are the worst  And you'll get splinters and cuts.
Your feet will get wider without shoes to hold them in shape. It's easier to climb trees. Grass feels wonderful.
I went barefoot, as much as possible, up into my twenties. Then I got used to shoes. Although I still go barefoot around my yard, I'm technically a tenderfoot.
I"m not in the UK, but am only about 4000 miles away.

No its not that my feet stick and I don't have foot fungus lol! I say it took courage because I used to worry about people staring or saying things to me if I was barefoot in public. However, now I really don't care at all and go barefoot nearly everywhere when the weather's warm

ooray for barefoot! Haha.
I lived in Florida until I was 14, so I went barefoot as much as possible. Then I moved to BC, and obviously, it's colder... so it's only a Summer thing, now. But you can bet, any time I'm indoors, I will never be caught with shoes or socks on.
True, people look at me funny. Some people make comments. "Put some shoes on, you fucking hippie." "Where are your shoes, are you that fucking poor?" I don't care... I'd be willing to bet I'm comfier than them, anyway. No stores here seem to mind it, because there are a lot of us in the Summer. Most people my own age are used to it, with me... because I was into fine arts for years, and I would NOT go on stage unless I could go barefoot.
As for the "pain" thing... feet toughen up. I climb huge rocks (I live in mountains) and trees, and couldn't imagine doing it with shoes on. Same with hiking. The river here is all rocks, but they're smooth... a lot of people even wear shoes when they're SWIMMING (could you imagine? I couldn't... but I swim naked, and I'd look funny if I was only wearing shoes) and I can run right over the rocks on the bank, no problem. You get used to hot pavement, too. My younger sister went barefoot with me a few times last Summer because she just couldn't find her shoes and I was in a hurry... I ended up having to piggy-back her because the pavement was hot and her feet hurt. I say the best way to get used to it is to just deal with it.
But always - always watch out for glass. I don't usually, but I still warn people against it. I went out late at night once, and seriously thought I just had something small stuck in my foot, right under my toe... got to my friend's house, and it turned out to be a fairly large piece of glass, my foot was cut open pretty deep, about 1" along the top of my foot. I super-glued it to avoid getting any sand or anything in it... but I also can't say I recommend that, because I'm not supposed to, I'm told it isn't very good to do.

Hey Eagle....do you really care what they think?
in the summer i got loads of strange looks and even some degrading comments, but i just thought to myself that just as they disagree with my appearence, i disagree with theirs...their sports brand trainers and designer clothing etc...
i say just do what you feel good doing.... i
for some reason, people round here like to use the term hippie as an insult but if they called me a hippie i'd just smile and say thankyou and keep on walking barefoot! :group_hug
