hello Everyone,
I just wanted to let everyone know that I have finally decided to sell one of my creations on ebay! This is a big step for me, I have only sold 2 skirts in my lifetime. When I make my clothes, I get so attached to them, I cant bear to see them go. However, I have met so many beautiful people and I have gotten so many compliments on my work, I have decided to share my artwork with others. I just hope other mamas will love these clothes as much as I do! Anyway, If anyone wants to take a look at what I have made, go to ebay and search for username "zahut". Even if you dont want to buy my skirt, I would LOVE an opinion on my clothes. All profits I receive from my clothes is going to make quilts for the children at Primary Childrens Hospital. Alot of kids are their because their parents abused them so badly, they were nearly killed! Its so sad, I want to make these little angels a homemade quilt of their own to suggle with.
Thanks to all! I love this website!

First, I love the colors you chose. It looks like it's all calico and very, very pretty.
I actually make clothing and sell it and I can give you some constructive criticism as a seamstress.
It looks like a four paneled skirt, the back panel containing six separate strips or mini-panels of patchwork. It appears to have two pockets created by four blocks. Though you have some very pretty colors, the design is very simple. There are a lot of different things you could do to improve apon this, as I think you've got a really good eye for color. Do you aplique at all? If not, it's very easy. What type of machine do you use, because there are some really great stiches for creating patches that you could use and would really make this skirt valued. The mini-panels could also use the patchwork to differ in block size as to avoid it becoming quilt like.
From the front, the six-mini-panels do not appear to be surged internally. I can tell by the way the poof out ever so slightly. You can't really see it on these pics, but on the ebay photos you can. If you dont' have a surging machine, there are some cheat surges you can use on many sewing machines.
I really like the ribbon you chose too. It's it a complete drawstring, or do you also have rubber-waisteband in there as well?
This is a very pretty skirt.
Peace

band aide,
thanks so much for your input! Actually, I do have a serger and all of my seams are serged, then stitched over again with my regular sewing machine for extra durability. I have a Viking machine, which I love alot!
I am not exactly sure what you are talking about when you reffered to the "six mini panels in the front" The very front of this skirt is one panel.
I will try using different sized squares, that is a good idea. Thank you for all of the compliments, and the suggestions for improvements. I absolutly love to sew, it brings me such great pleasure!

Hey,
I also have a Viking! I have the Viking 425 and I LOVE it! Sorry about the surge remark. It really looked to me as though they hadn't been. I guess my eyes are failing me at an early age. That's good that you surge and stitch over. I do too and it truly makes all the difference, doesn't it! :D
As for the mini panels, you must have misread my post. I was referring to the back, not the front. Each "mini panel" is each row of blocks you use. Do you ever make apliques? I find that they are often the very personal touch that can make a very simple item explode with beauty (not that your skirt needs any more beauty, as it is already very beautiful. I am only trying to be constructive! If it seems nit picky, it's only because I can tell that you are very talented and I think perhaps I can help you. I've been sewing for a looooooong time. I also travel and vend clothing during festival season!)
Peace! Maybe I'll buy your skirt.
You know who makes great clothes and is INCREDIBLY talented? Tiffany at phunkymonkeythreads.com If you don't know her stuff, check it out. I've bought clothes from her and it's all super durable too!

Hey Band Aide,
I didnt realize you were talking about my patchwork panel not being serged, you are correct and have a very good eye, my patchwork panels are NOT sergerd, but all other seams are. I have never made my own appilques, but it is something I would LOVE to learn how to do. I really want to learn how to write words with my sewing machine, that would be soooo cool!
I have looked at the Phunkey Monkey website and I must say, she is a talented girl! Snake Mountain Threads also has some beautiful clothes! I only hope one day I will be as talented and gifted as these two ladies! I spend a great deal of time everyday sewing and I think its safe to say, it brings me the greatest pleasure! Thank you so much for saying I am talented. That really means alot to me.
