Adam and I just got another doggie. She's a year and a half old, we're pretty sure 3/4 pit bull and 1/4 boxer (she's way too small to be 1/2 boxer, but she's definitely pittie and boxer) and her name is Meeka.
It's a sad story, though. She was sold to her first owner for $600 as a purebred bullmastiff puppy. Your typical case of backyard breeding, and a guy in his mid-to-late 20's wanting a "badass" dog, but he didn't know how to take care of/handle such a breed. Like I said, she's definitely pit bull and boxer, NO part mastiff and definitely not purebred. He starved her, abused her, and ignored her. One of our friends' girlfriends babysits for hte guy, and he said he was "tired of her" and was thinking about giving her up for adoption or just killing her. The girl said her boyfriend would take her (he also has Kodos's littermate, Thor) so she was given to him. He didn't know how badly she was treated, or that she wasn't trained (they said she was) so after a couple weeks, he said he was thinking about getting rid of her. Luckily, he knew from the beginning that we'd take her. It lasted about a month and a half, and then he brought her to us last Monday.

So, she's super-skinny, skittish around people, and not trained at all. She was so badly ignored, she didn't know her own name... she's learning it really well now, though. She's starting to learn "sit" and "lay down", and catching on to some of Kodos's tricks ("shake a paw/other paw") without us even trying to teach them to her yet. She's learning how to walk on a leash, and she's getting REALLY comfortable around me (it's taking longer with Adam because her old owner was a guy around his age). She's incredibly happy in her new home, she gets fed every day, walked at least once a day, has Kodos to play with, and if she gets scared of anything/anyone, she runs to me and I let her crawl on my lap and cuddle up to me, so she knows everything's okay and there's nothing to be scared of any more. We even taught her yesterday that if Kodos takes her food, she's allowed to kick his ass or tell on him, and she'll get it back, hehe. (Not food aggression, just learning to keep their chewy treats/bones seperate.)

Anyway, here are a few pictures of our new little girl. Despite being treated and hurt so badly before, she's totally friendly and lovable, save for being a bit scared around most people and nervous about eating... but we're getting past that.

This is what she was when we got her. Skinny, chained up ALL THE TIME, and scared. Very scared.

Still a bit scared of the camera...

And playing in the yard with Kodos... "I'm bigger!" "Yeah, well, I'm faster!"

We worry about even taking pictures of them "playing" because of their breeds. Don't want anybody to see them and assume that they're used for fighting. They play rough, but they sure do love each-other.... the neighbour's cat is the only "fighter" the dogs have to worry about, haha, Kodos got his ass kicked pretty good this morning.

Those two look like thye are having so much fun!

It's good to see she found a new home with new loving parents.
Take good care of both of them, I know they will be spoiled like our three.

BTW our pit bull is full blood and she is as skinny as yours, and Sydney is 3 years old. We don't know if it was because she was the runt or if she's just so energetic. Her mother had another litter after hers and Angel (though she has been fixed) is freekin HUGE! Her body is as big around as I am. I'm glad we don't have Angel.... she likes to sleep in the bed with you and she takes up half of it. Sydney atleast sleeps at the foot of the bed unless a thunderstorm comes up. But I love Angel, she's a very sweet gal and a good mother dog. And she bee-lines it to me when we go visit. She oves the shit out of me... and I have the lack of skin on my arms from her constant licking to prove it.

Adam and I both grew up around pit bulls, rotties, etc. and we've never seen a healthy pit bull or boxer THAT skinny. She was starved so bad, when we first got her (and still, but not as much) you could count all of her ribs *literally* from across the room. You can see how her hips and shoulders move when she walks, every tiny little movement, every single bone. I fed her a few small pieces of raw steak yesterday (we're taking it slow with raw meat, because she was starved before) and with one piece, she jumped up slightly to reach it, and she was so excited about it, she bit my thumb... pretty damn hard. She didn't mean to, it was a small piece and she isn't even used to jumping for food, but she was SO excited, she just couldn't wait until I put it close to her mouth to get it.
Even my parents are helping us out, with this one... giving us leftovers (we hate feeding them kibble) and things like pigs feet to boil for them. We're going to the butcher shop soon, to see how much they charge for "leftovers" (bones, etc) because we haven't checked yet (we usually just share our food with them) but she needs it SO badly - that's how badly she was starved before.

Adam learned yesterday that, if you sit/lay on the floor and play/fight with her, she'll bite your legs, haha. She knows she's a small girl, and that's her best defense. She isn't really a biter, as in "attack dog style" or anything, but she IS a playful biter. We're just working on leash training her, "sit" "lay down" and "stay", and teaching her not to bite too hard when she's just playing... or at all, because you never know when there might be little ones around.
We weren't planning on getting another one until AT LEAST August/September or later, but we just can't say no to pit bulls, rotties, mastiffs, etc. that need good homes. We were both raised around those kinds of dogs, so they're a HUGE weakness for both of us, haha. We're definitely happy to have her.

Here is a home made dog food recipe we use that you guys can try out:

2 cups of oatmeal (old fashion)
1 cup of beans
1 packet of yeast
1 qt. of left overs (what ever you have, you can mix)

Combine everything in a large pan or crockpot & cover with water. Cook untill thick (about 5 hours). Makes about 8-9 servings for 2-3 dogs (depends on their size).

Our dogs love it.

This is truly sad:

From the Pit Bull Rescue Center (www.pbrc.net)

PLEASE DON'T LET MY EYE SCARE YOU!!! I'm a very sweet dog and I absolutely love being around people. I'll follow you every where you go if you let me. Let me introduce myself. My name is Long John. I'm approximately one year old. They say I'm small for my age, weighing approximately 30 pounds; however, I need to put on a little bit of weight, as you can see from the picture above. I came to the shelter on April 6th. I'm so glad the officers found me. The neighborhood in which I "lived" was very bad; it was difficult living on my own!! I was always worried about finding food or someone picking me up and being mean to me. I'd rather be stray in that neighborhood, though, than live with my former owner. I don't like to talk about how mean my "owner" was. All I can say is that my former owner caused 90% of my eye to fall out. He didn't even bother to have the rest of my eye removed; he actually didn't even bother to care for me and that's why I ended up on the street. Anyway, after I was picked up by the shelter, the nice people took me to a doctor who surgically removed the remaining portion of my eye. I'm really adjusting well to having one eye and I'm thankful for being given a chance. I'm currently sleeping in the bathroom of the shelter for lack of space. Please consider fostering me or adopting me so that I have a chance at life.

NOTE THE PHOTO IS PRETTY GRAPHIC

I teared up when I saw this dog and read his description. I still can't believe that there are idiots out there that see animals and pets as objects to be abuse and neglected. People like that do not deserve to live on this Earth with the rest of us. Those people are the animals. In Texas there is a law on the books called the "Loco Law". It's named after this puppy who had been lured away from his home, tortured and had his eyes gouged out. He found his way home with his sense of smell. They had his eye sockets looked at and they sewed his eyes shut. The poor thing looks like he is closing his eyes. They never found the sick fucks who did that to him, and now because of thier acts and so many people finnaly standing up, there is a law punished by law as a felony.

Ohh man, just reading/looking through all of the "normals" on PBRC makes me sad, it's terrible when you run into ones like that. Even worse that it's so much harder for them to find homes, because people are unwilling to work with dogs that were abused by past owners. I'd take them all, if I could... but for now, we're just VERY happy that we got Meeka, and pretty happy that we don't live in an area where this happens often.

In other news - Kodos is seriously starting to scare us, haha. I remember reading the PAWS flyer last Winter and they had a 10 month old Bullmastiff puppy, and it said he was about the size of a full grown shepherd. We freaked when we read it, and despite wanting him, he was already adopted when we checked on him... now, Kodos just turned 10 months, and we're starting to realize how big he's gonna get. He's also about the size of a full grown shepherd. Wonder if he'll get to the size of an average bullmastiff by the time he's all grown up, haha... I don't know WHAT we're gonna do with him. I'm just glad he's really calm and well behaved.
