the fllowing is the draft of my very successful english class presentation. I thought I'd put it here, because it goes. I got an A on it!

Draft on environmental speech

1. What kind of earth is this?

2. We go around throwing our trash where ever we please, and we say the animals are cute, and yet we’re killing them. Well, who cares, there’s plenty a those critters out there, right? There’s plenty enough food and water too.

3. Wrong. Soon there might not be any left. And, we’ll all die of starvation. And poisoning. And lack of oxygen. Just like our land and animals.

4. These nuclear plants need somewhere to drop their waste products. So they get buried underground, or dumped in lakes or the ocean. Oil tankers spill oil in the ocean and tons of fish along with birds, turtles, dolphins, and whales, they all die or are injured and or poisoned. Lumber bussinesses cut down forests to build our housing areas which also take up more space and could lead to over crowding which eventually leads to starvation and death. For what are these and other destructive developments done for? Money. Money for greedy hearts that want to kill those around them.

5. Something needs to be done in order for our earth to be saved. We need to find other resources to use instead of non-renewable resources. We also need to recycle all the ones that are being used, because if you don’t it ends up being compacted under the ground. Recycle paper, plastic, glass, aluminum, rubber, and anything else you can think of. Making your own decomposition bins in your backyard is a good idea. That way your food trash doesn’t stink up your kitchen and it doesn’t get compacted. It just goes back where it came from. Better yet, eat it all. Save it for later if you have to. Or just don’t fix so much next time. Turn off the water and electricity when you aren’t using it, and use your car only when you have to or use energy conservative models.

6. If we don’t take steps to protect our environment, we won’t have any environment left. Please, help save our planet. You aren’t only helping the land, you’re helping save lives.

You say it, Sister! :)

A few years ago I sent 10 dollars to the Arbor Day Foundation, along with many others. They took the money and bought up some land in the rainforest. Each 10 dollars bought about 120 sq feet of land. I don't know if they're still buying land at this time, but what they bought then is preserved now.

When I started doing most of my cooking from complete scratch I noticed that my trash went down to about a third of what it had been. My grocery bill was cut almost in half. And my wieght dropped :) Of course it entails many hours spent in the kitchen.

If I have food that's not going to be eaten (and that is not very often) I throw it out and the wild animals eat it.

Ever see The Lorax? It's by Dr Suess. It's about a forest of Lorax trees that are cut down to the brink of extinction. All in the name of money. The Lumber Industry did thier best to ban it.

Peace,
Pedata

We flush our toilets with better quality of water that two thirds of the planet have to drink, we throw away more food than most people have to eat. In fact even our animals receive better nutrition. Somethings wrong!!!

Nice one, purple princess. :)

Pedata, heaven forbid marijuana/cannabis/hemp were legalized and put the lumber and cotton industries out of business... Big business always fights to stay on top, and not only do people suffer, but our planet suffers as well. Good thing they didn't actually get the book banned.

Things are going too Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 for me, these days :(

And PEACE_FROG as usual, speaks truth. Even when I was homeless I had it better than people in some other countries, and even THAT isn't right.

very good plea, purple pp!

Point 4 is of special interest because these are 'big-picture' items that our governments have a main hand in controlling. I've done some research on abanded mines in north america...and:
"In the Western states, there are 200,000-500,000 abandoned mines on public and private lands."
...and depending on what was being mined, there continue to be many, many pollution issues with these sites. Acid mine drainage is a big one:
http://www.miningwatch.org/emcbc/primer/acid_mine_drainage.htm
http://tv.cbc.ca/national/pgminfo/ugly/index.html

...which occurs when acidic water (pH=1-2) from these sites leach into the surrounding environment.

-i find these issues quite disturbing because they will only change when the 'big-picture' guys wanna change them:(

Good thing they didn't actually get the book banned.
Unfortunately, many books have been banned:
'the last tree', Larry Pratt - great book about how transnational coorperations (TNC's) rape north america for lumber, send it over to japan for manufacturing (i.e. furniture, chop sticks!) and resell the product back to north america for huge profit. Read this book about 8yrs ago. Been looking for it for the last 4yrs. If anyone has a copy please let me know:)

That was a sad book, and the Lorax is a cute little fuzzy critter!

Oh yeah, Trufala trees.
They made it into a cartoon.

Next I'll forget my own name.
