"Of course the people don't want war. But after all, it's the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it's always a simple matter to drag the people along whether it's a democracy, a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism, and exposing the country to greater danger." --Reichsmarschall (Marshal of the Empire) Herman Goering at the Nuremberg trials

I heard about it on the local news (I live in Wisconsin). I couldn't believe it... it's such a mess.

Welcome to America, land of the free, right? The place where people are so afraid of a dead man that they take away the rights of others to do what they will with their own property. And the concept that maybe we don't know the whole truth about the holocaust? ooooohhh... now that's scary. Don't let anybody question that, the next thing you know our children will be being taught racism in schools. I wish there was a jerkoff smiley; this'd be a good place for it.

As fucked up as this is, he still has the right to do it.

After Saddam and the whole 911, WMD, threat to the world propaganda thing. How can any of us be sure of anything unless you see it for yourself? If it was someone the U.S. gov. thought best represented the corperate interests of America in 1939 we would have been helping the "purist nazi patiots" ;) rid their birthright of parasitic evil and the immoral monarchies that support them. Besides YIN and YANG. Evil must exist because it is....just so as good shall be.

This situation causing a real uproar, the closer you live to it the more you hear about it. It's one of those situations where it's the rights of a few versus the rights of many. Whatever happens, happens. All I know is that i'm not letting myself lose any sleep over it.

If anyone cares about what the USA is supposed to be, we should be losing sleep over this. It's a prime example of what's wrong with this country, why capitolist democracy is a flawed system, and why they American people have become little more than scared sheep. In the USA, by God, if this man wants to honor Hitler on his own property then he should have every right to, and he should have the support and protection of the government and the people regardless of whether any one individual agrees with him or not.

I'm jewish, but i totally have to agree with you dude. While I'm totally against the idea of what this guy is doing, if we tell him he can't, where do you draw the line?

^^^ I'm curious, why are you against what he's doing? I realize as a Jew you're obviously not the biggest Hitler fan, but regardless... he is undeniably an important and very interesting historical figure, so why shouldn't we have a memorial for him? I mean, I personally disagree with any and all religion and worship; I feel they are inherently destructive and counterproductive, but I still am interested in learning about various religious cultures and histories, and I try my best to respect both the people and the beliefs even though I may strongly express my opposition from time to time.

Well, I guess I'm not so much against it as it's something I wouldn't do myself. In all honesty, I might just visit the place when I go back to Wisconsin if I have the time.

Somebody somewhere in this country at any given moment is probably offended by something their neighbor is doing. This instance just happened to make the news. If I lost sleep over this, i'd never sleep at all.

I believe that's only in the case of war crimes (real or suspected). I.E: Confirmed Death Camp guards, etc.

they make him shut down his hitler memorial and then my neighbors will be able to make me take down my giant robot as soon as she's finished (it's a way overkill motion light/birdfeeder holder)

Though I think hitler was a complete douche/evil genious I think this guy has every right to do whatever memorial he wants on his own property. AS long as he isnt carving swastikas into synagogues or anything actual action hindering others rights than i am for him doing this.
