AT&T rewrites rules: Your data isn't yours

It now belongs to the Government! Well as of friday.

AT&T has issued an updated privacy policy that takes effect Friday. The changes are significant because they appear to give the telecom giant more latitude when it comes to sharing customers' personal data with government officials.

The new policy says that AT&T -- not customers -- owns customers' confidential info and can use it "to protect its legitimate business interests, safeguard others, or respond to legal process."

The policy also indicates that AT&T will track the viewing habits of customers of its new video service -- something that cable and satellite providers are prohibited from doing.

Moreover, AT&T (formerly known as SBC) is requiring customers to agree to its updated privacy policy as a condition for service -- a new move that legal experts say will reduce customers' recourse for any future data sharing with government authorities or others.

MINOT, N.D. - Backers of the proposed Dakota Bark Park are letting the dogs out - backsides up - to try to raise money for the new park.
About a dozen painted ornaments of dog posteriors will appear in yards to raise money for benches and a sign at the dog park. It is scheduled to open later this summer or early fall on the west side of Minot.

The ornaments will be placed in people's yards until the property owners donate money for the park. The donors will decide the next yard to display the ornaments.

"As long as we keep getting names and people are willing to donate, we'll keep running it," said Jackie Jensen, one of the organizers of the fund-raiser. Eventually, she said, the ornaments might be sold at a silent auction.

The ornaments were planted Monday in the yard of Sue Tremont, who owns Tremont Petsitting Service of Minot, to kick off the fund-raiser.

"It definitely looks like I have a bunch of dog butts in my yard," Tremont joked, "but it's all for a good cause. At least I know these dogs won't leave a mess on the lawn like the real ones."
