:group_hug
a warm hello to all forum members and visitors!!
this post is meant to discuss pet peeves when it comes to posting on forums, my intention is that through sharing our personal experinces we can better motivate and enhance our discussions.
What has been bothering me is a tendency that i have experienced personally. A few threads that I have participated in have been completely shut down by a single comment that has no bearing on the purpose of the thread or the topic being dicussed.
In one instance I wrote about the disturbing actions or lack of action by the company I work for, hoping to get feedback on what I could do about it, besides quit and forget about it.
Instead someone commented on my signature in a way that perhaps was intended to belittle me, and certainly it succeeded in stopping the discussion. I personally think that a comment like that should have been directed in a personal message, but maybe that would have been more of a personal attack, but no matter where it was posted it was a personal attack, and one that was not worth commenting on. Though I will add that our signatures in past posts change to our current signature, making that particular comment more meaningless.
In another thread, the creative nature of the postings was stopped when someone got really picky about a single word.
I pose this rhetorical question: do you participate in the discussions here to belittle others and inflate yourself? or are you a Warrior?
I am a Warrior, and as annoyed as I get, I will not be belittled by insignificant rabble and I will not belittle others for their ideas or rabble. I participate here, to share my ideas, change my ideas, and listen to what others have to say. A discussion is a tool that has been used by humanity for centuries to understand different viewpoints, find common grounds, and spread knowledge.
I would ask of everyone, Please don't give into the ease of putting others down, we all are capable of that, but be Human and learn to hear without judgement, but with consideration and make use of the same freedom and reply with an open mind.
I'm listening right now to Grand Funk Railroad's: "I'm your Captain (Closer to Home)" and feeling better.
I want to be clear, because I don't think I am the only one who feels shut down by the careless thoughts of others, in forums and in our direct conversations. As Ani Difranco might put it, it's important not to make our lives meaningful by demeaning others. Perhaps we can watch for this in ourselves and not give into it as a reaction. We are or at least can be sso much more creative in our rebuttals than that!!
Thank you for reading, thinking, asking, and at least attempting to empathize or undrestand. Please share your own peeves, in a positive way (no pointing fingers, name-calling, etc) for we can vent without burning those around us.
Peace
TreeLove :)

I see you have only posted a few times, dont let a couple instances get you down. There are a few very sarcastic people on this forum, who mean no harm. Id take comments or posts like that with a grain of salt, I dont think its a "put down", just plain old sarcasm.
Im sorry your posts werent replied to, I see there were some good points.

Greetings Tree Love - Thanks for posting and sharing that.
When I saw the title, I thought this was going to be about the 30 day body cleansing programs <~~ See, perfect example of me thread hijacking. ;)
With a forum, I think threads can morph and branch into other topics, good or bad. And, you're right, sometimes threads do get hijacked, get way off topic, or contain cynical responses.
Although I'm not a fan of editing, or deleting posts, as this place was created to be open as a free exchange for ideas, we have 4 extremely capable moderators now to take care of flagrant abuse.
Having said that, I hope that you are getting feedback and interesting discussion out of the forum, and that you may filter through the irrelevant. I also hope you continue to share and post, as I can tell you are an excellent writer, and deep thinker.
Please stick with us. :weird39:

• be polite. this is an open forum and we are here to help each other.
• post in the correct section. our forum is divided into sections to make it easier to read and maintain.
• stay on topic. if you are reading a post/thread that pertains to a certain topic, please don't ask another question (somewhat related to this topic) within the thread. create another topic/thread for your question.
• there is no such thing as a stupid question, if you don't ask, we won't learn.
• try to be specific with your question(s). the more specific your question(s), the better chance there is for it to be answered. although many we wish we had the skill, we are not mind readers.
• respect the moderators, if you have some suggestions or feedback, bring it to their attention.
• if you discover an abusive post or someone posting a thread in the wrong section, bring it to the moderators' attention.
• be patient for a response. the moderators have outside lives (believe it or not).
• use punctuation.
• use proper English or a readable/reasonable facsimile thereof.
• add whitespace to your posts, use enter for paragraphs.
• read your post over before posting it. try to catch typos.

These a great "non-rules" that this board should adopt.
I say non-rules b/c these are guidelines that we should all go by. Not just here but other boards.
As for the punctuation part, well there are many ways to get around to spell correctly. If you use Mozilla it puts a red "squiggle" under the misspelled words, right click on them and it will tell you the correct spelling, just click on it and it replaces the misspelled word. I'm not sure if Internet Explorer's new upgrade has it or not.
But no matter our age differences (be it 15 or 95) we are all here to talk about what we believe we know is right (well most of us) and the environment, politics and such, we all need to talk to each other with respect and in a mature form. I mean, if you all want this place to become another Hipforums, go right ahead. The owners can close it and it will show that there are no intelligent "hippies" online b/c this forum was like everyone else. Let's break the mold people.
Yes, I'm stoned, but I do believe in this.

Sorry, but my spelling should have nothing to do with posting. That bugs me, I mean flat out internet lingo is annoying but mispelling a bit... one "rule" I guess I will just have to break.
Also, I kinda dig thread jacking, makes for interesting conversations. Sometimes threads get beat down, but when we switch it up a bit, its a fresh thread.
Ahhh rules....

Now I'm sober, let me say that I agree with you Libra.
If your going to be a pick-pot about spelling, join a spelling forum.
Same thing with grammar.

well
honestly
you're not the only one peeved by it
i'm sure we have all had our posts hacked, and picked apart section by section, and called names and belittled and judged. all the people that did that need a life, fortunatly the names that come to mind havent posted on here for a while, but i am sure they will be back in some form or another.
It's why I left for quite while, just got sick of all the bullshit. I know what i stand for and so does everyone that I know, I have better things to do than argue grammer...grammar..spelling..semantics. lord knows I have almost hit the caps lock key and let people know how i really feel on occasion.
(p.s. the caps lock thing was a joke)
the net/msg board have a way of lending themselves to those who would judge and insult and belittle. people that assume things about they way someone types or uses a word. I don't really give a damn. I can't type well, don't really care to and I know the written language is a lot different than spoken. Imagine if bush had to write a law with all of his stuttering and stammering.
the idiots will lose interest, and after coming back i see that most of the good folks stuck it out
and by the way...welcome

This is the only forum I'm involved with so I don't know much about ettiquete. Is it impolite to steer the thread back on topic if you feel that it's gotten off course?

not at all, NCWW. :)
it boils down to a 'how do I want people to talk to me' kind of thing.

YAY!!
Thank you all for writing and taking this to heart, but not too seriously!!
Hippie Staff: You're doing a great job, and don't feel like this is a put down for your work, people are people, you can't monitor chaotic behavior, and I certainly wouldn't want you to!!!
People got to be free!! I just think we can be more loving, compassionate, open, hilarious, and intelligent with that freedom, don't you?
thanx again y'all, Peace!

hehe, I like starting a post with the above cause it will rile Froggy up and then I get to have fun. ;)
I think politeness is nice, but sometimes you can't or won't be polite. Maybe something hits home for you, or makes you feel flippant, and this comes across in your writing of course.
Fortunately we still have some freedoms. So I think people should be free to post how and what they like, and other people are equally as free to not read it.
If it goes too far...well isn't that what forum moderators are for?

So, okay, I'm just not understanding the point of the original post. Could you please be blunt and just tell me what you're trying to say? Ha ha.

Hah, I thought we were all going to be pulled in to a nifty cult of spiritual cleansing. Shit, I just hijacked the thread again!! ;)
