No Hugs Allowed at Ill. Middle School
Oct 2, 7:33 AM (ET)
OAK PARK, Ill. (AP) - If you need a hug, you won't get it at Percy Julian Middle School. Principal Victoria Sharts banned hugging among the suburban Chicago school's 860 students anywhere inside the building. She said students were forming "hug lines" that made them late for classes and crowded the hallways.
"Hugging is really more appropriate for airports or for family reunions than passing and seeing each other every few minutes in the halls," Sharts said.
Another reason to institute the no-hugging policy was that some hugs could be too long and too close, she said. "There is another side to the issue when a hug is either unwanted or becomes inappropriate as judged by one of the students involved," Sharts wrote in a statement to parents. "On occasion, we do deal with those incidents. The goal is always to promote safe and orderly hallways where everybody can get by, be safe, and be on time."

Hah... wonderful mental picture there.
I hug everyone. I don't get it. Who cares if the guys get boners because some chick is against them? We're not allowed to have normal bodily functions?

ok, so here is what I see happening. Kids still wanting their hugs and hanging out in bathrooms to get them causing the kids to still be late if not later. Damn, such a shame. So does this mean that parents aren't even allowed to hug their kids when they drop them off if they walk their kids into the school?? Wouldn't that be intervening in parental privileges?

What has become of the world! What happened to the days when, if you had a problem with someone, you talked to them instead of your lawyer? And when did we get so busy that we had to lump everything into "good" or "bad"? Some hugs are inappropriate at school and some are fine. Schools need to do their jobs and pay attention to students instead of banning this and that!
The supreme court heard a case last week about a 13 year old girl who was strip searched because another student "said" she got ibuprofin from her! WTF!!! And it's not like they thought is was something else. They admitted to knowing it was ibuprofin but they apparently figured if a girl has over the counter pain meds she must be dealing.

I'm sorry for your loss forrest! I think it's criminal the number of people who are proscribed addictive drugs. I don't think that means that we should lump all "drugs" together though.

It's o.k. he died 28 years ago on Mothers Day, It has lead me to protest prescription drugs massively! The stats will show that more people are screwed up or died from them, then, ALL so called "illegal drugs". I am not advocating the use of any drug...

I won't touch anything that comes from a perscription if I can find another way to resolve it. Pretty much only script drug I will take is an antibiotic. I was on medications from a young age and believe, with good reason, that they caused massive issues in me. Especially ritalin and my ability to handle anger/rage.
For the record I wasn't joking about perscription drugs, for both tylenol and advil are over the counter medicines.
The schools are currently attempting to push me into putting my son on medications to "calm him down a bit", the same line of horse crap they fed my mom when I was in 1st grade and got put on ritalin.

Dont do it Adam!! Have you researched it at all? There are certain herbal remedies for kids to help calm them, or to help there attention span, natural ways. Even diets can trigger unwanted behaviors. I know that red dyes found in drinks, candy, food can trigger a.d.d like symptoms.
I can look into some stuff for you if you want?

I've done tons of research on it and already decided that he is not going on meds no matter what they say. I was on then and refuse to let him go through what I did. I'll fight them over it in court if I have to. My mind was made up as soon as Mykl was diagnosed as autistic.

Good choice Adam! It's hard to buck the system but it is so worth it. Here is a link to a book on ADHD written by a midwife/doctor and her husband, who is a principle. I haven't read this particular book but she is a really smart, thoughtful woman with a lot of insight. Hope it helps. http://avivaromm.com/books
