Does anyone plant a winter garden???
I want too, but time is an issue. I have lots of work to do in preperation of a winter garden and I dont know if I can pull it off before the cold settles in.
I was reading mother earth news and it really got me interested in it, if I only had the money for a greenhouse it would sweet!!!
Any tips or methods??

Well I just killed my pumpkins..so I'm of zero help. Who kills pumpkins? Aren't they like a no mess-up, easy to grow vegetable?
I'm so embarrassed. :o

how did you kill them?? Did there leaves have white spots on them?
Because for the most part pumpkins are easy to grow, lol but they can get diseases that will most certainly off them.

Yes..the leaves turned grayish yellow w/ some spots. I may of overwatered them - or maybe they didn't get enough sun. I had visions of plump pumpkins this October, so a huge bummer.
There is still hope for my tomatoes! Apparently they like where they are at, as I see little green tomatoes on the plants today.
I would do lettuces, but it would be a battle w/ the bugs. Our neighborhood skunks do a good job at keeping the snails down, but the caterpillars still eat up anything low, and leafy. I know some people put little flat plates of beer out for the slugs/worms.

nope it was not your fault, they had a type of fungus. Cant remember the name of it, but def a fungus of some sort.
What part of the country do you live in?
Lettuce and leafy greens are great to grow now, they love the cool weather and theres less bugs.

The only thing I am planting for the winter is carrots. They are super sweet when you pluck them out of the frozen earth. Or dig them out with a great big shoveful! I'm looking forward to digging one out with my little girl so we can have a fresh nose for our snowman.
I figure that after all the work I put into my summer garden, then freezing and canning, about all I can handle for the winter is carrots! :)

It really is alot if work. I underestimated that when I planted a huge garden, hours and hours of work then when its harvest time its even more. BUT so worth every minute to have fresh veggies grown by your own hands.
