Folk ya!!! I like Dave Nachmanoff, Cat Stevens, Eliza Gilkyson, Bruce Cockburn, Al Stewart. Anything creative, accoustic and from the heart. I have a good collection of world music (not reggae) I used to get exposed to on Link T.V, which airs a world music program.. I however have removed said devil box (tv) from my house and am currently jonz'in. :bawl:

I'm into Bluegrass. When I was growing up we used to go to the old Settler's reunions and watch the fiddlers contest.

I love Irish folk. It just makes me happy. :D My husband took me to a Celtic Women concert for my birthday this year. I don't know if they really count as folk but it was awsome.

Aye, Celtic music is awesome. They have a huge Celtic music festival in Dallas every year, though I'm sure Boston has the largest.

out of curiosity, why did you get rid of your tv? i say good for you~ most TV is crap, and anything worth watching is online, anyway. but still curious.

I have a nine year old son, I don't need to compete for attention. You only get one chance to raise 'em. It's kinda funny; I noticed this morning, He made a Christmas list and has no idea what to ask for. It seems the absense of comercials has rendered him clueless as to what is new and exciting in the world of toys. We just might skip Chinese lead paint poisoning this year. BTW I have a dvd machine and 3 seasons of The Office on disc..... I'm cool :mixed-smi

I'm pretty partial to folk(and with noise influences). Neutral Milk Hotel, Animal Collective, etc.

I just prefer a little electronic sometimes, you know?

Absolutely~ I'm actually a huge fan of drum n bass, but in certain mindsets only.

Folk's something I can listen to way more frequently/for most of my musical endeavors.

Really like Celtic. Even tried to learn the fiddle. Too much for this old dog. Still play guitar and sing tho. Right now working on tunes by Jimmie Rogers, Dylan, James Taylor and the Beatles. Oops my vintage is showing! :now where's that old guy smiley?:

not sure if it's the same on all pbs radio stations but out local one on sunday evening has the thistle and shamrock (celtic) followed by the folk sampler and folk traditions, get to hear lots of good new stuff. we are also lucky to have elderly instruments in the big city

www.elderly.com

they have about the mose ecclectic music selection i have ever seen. I go there just to listen to everybody pickin in the huge old vintage building

i thought it odd to find a fairly local place that stocked several digeridoo's

Yeah. She's different. I have a CD of hers (Book of Secrets) I really like to play clarinet along with.

My favorite folk group is The Wailin' Jennys. I recently discovered them and they're awesome. Great voices and very calming, mellow music for reflection and relaxation. Definately recommend getting the 40 Days album (you can get 3 free songs on their website http://www.thewailinjennys.com/merchandise.aspx)

Also a fan of Bob Dylan, Old Crow Medicine Show, Ben Harper, Joni Mitchell, Phil Ochs, Ani DiFranco, Simon & Garfunkel...

Check out Luka Bloom. I have some of his stuff. He has an album called Keeper of the Flame, or something like that, and he does covers of songs. I love his version of "If I Were a Carpenter"

I have loved Irish music ever since I sat in a pub in County Kerry and listened to the band playing the traditional music while I enjoyed my pint of Guinness. Maybe a few pints.

I like Irish & Celtic instrumental music. Bluegrass is a big favorite of mine, too.

If you want, give a listen to my folk band!
