Well there are people who will take it for what it is, entertainment. And then there are those people who would be violent anyway (there's violence in their home) and watching these things just provokes that natural response in them. Me, I just get an adrenaline rush, and that's it. But others with abusive families are provoked to retaliate.

Right. It's not like violent media will awake some type of inner demon in all children. Hell, I was raised on Mortal Kombat, and I don't go around dishing out Fatalaties! to everybody that pisses me off. It probably all comes back to parenting and the situation at home.

Violence becomes entertainment, violence becomes commonplace. No big deal, it's just a game. A childs game and we are numb to it. 5 people killed in a church, 6 at a mall, last week. Both acts committed by teenagers, I read the headline but dont even click on the story. Its so commonplace I am numb to it.

Agreed, Peace Frog.
I see these on the news and just wonder "why". Why don't people throw up a flag when they see that someone is mentally unstable instead of passing it off at "teenage angst". It's funny, I never went through that angst. I guess I matured fast, or perhaps the type of friends I surrounded myself with, but I never wanted to pick up a gun and just randomly shoot people because my girlfriend broke up with me or I was teased or some crap. Kids today need to suck it up and grow up and they need help doing that. Many parents today don't pay attention to what their kids do. I know the parents here do, but not everyone is willing to be like us and work hard at building character in our children (or in my case my nieces and nephews). Each generation has gotten worse and worse over the decades, I haven't a clue to what is really the cause, but I feel poor parenting is part of it.
I also think it's the food we eat. I think that over the years the chemicals have altered the neurosis of each generation. These are also the same chemicals that have caused girls to develop earlier in life (my mother in law teaches 3rd and 4th grade an many of the girls are already ovulating! In fact one 11 year old is pregnant.) but growth hormones in the food is a different gripe. I feel that many parents don't want to be parents, they want to go out and have fun and let the tv or internet be the babysitter. They aren't teaching their kids anything! For instance, many kids don't know how to do basic things like tie knots, build something, cook, or even light maintenance on their vehicles. These kids don't know that a diet of fast food and sodas will kill you, and the sad thing is if they ever figure that out or listen to what we have been saying, then it may be too late for them.
But parent's are teaching their children that what they see is "fantasy" and can get them in trouble or even hurt or kill them if they do this or that. And that what they see in the movies can't be done in real life with out consequences. Sex is another main subject they need to talk to them about. Children having children, when I was in school it was unheard of for more than half of the female population to be pregnant and unmarried. the boys running around emulating gang members and the crap are going around breeding and no caring about their actions. These children will probably grow up to become labor workers like their parents or cannon fodder for the government as solders (seeing that going into the military is the best hook on getting a higher education). But sadly, if they enter the military & they don't learn to retain self discipline, we are just training morons who can now shoot with the accuracy of a marksman who could get upset and possibly go to a mall or church and start shooting people (not saying these cases that have happened recently, just using them as an example).
It all boils down to is the parent(s) not doing what a parent should do, teach their offspring to function in the real world. And that is sometimes because the parent can't function in the real world either. I feel people follow trends too much. When I was in school it was cool for girls to play like they were dumb. WOW how "cool" is that? Let's all sit around and forget we have educations and act stupid. But I'm starting to ramble so I'll end my "tirade".

i blame the hippies
guess i can't really do that (twas a bit of humor anyway)
i blame the lawyers. there's a lot more involved than that but i dont feel like ranting and typing. love your children, teach them right from wrong and how to love life. if you do your job as a parent you cant blame them for going on a shooting spree
