I feel like I'm coming down w/ something..took a bunch of Vit. c, but the throat is starting to ache, and I feel like my energy level has hit rock bottom.

Anyone have some sure-fire 'knock a cold' out tips?

Thanks!

"Fresh" pineapple juice is wonderful for colds! It's less allergenic than citrus and less acidic in the stomach, it won't upset it and cause that burning feeling that you can get with orange juice, and it actually contains more vitamin C. It also breaks down mucus better. To treat a cold, drink four to eight ounces of juice at least four times a day. Please be sure and dilute the pineapple juice with the same amount of water.

Grapefruit is a great food for fighting a cold. One reason is it is high in vitamin C. A lesser-known reason is that grapefruit helps detoxify the liver. Your liver is the front line to the immune system and when the immunity is impaired, you need something that is alkaline and not acidic to detoxify it. All citrus fruits become alkaline when metabolized in the body, but oranges and other citrus fruits are too sweet to promote proper liver drainage, so you get much better detoxification from grapefruit. By eating one or more grapefruit and their white bitter pulp each day, you will help prevent colds and build an immunity. Grapefruit is also known as a wonder drug for breaking down fatty tissue and helping you in weight loss.

Those are a few I know off hand.

Liquid herbs work great. And pre sickness is the best time to boost up your immune system with echinecea and some others. I am at work so I dont have any of my books with me, but when I get home tonight I have a great recipe for some tea that will knock the sniffles outta ya,lol

Also Colloidal Silver is a natural antibiotic, works wonders if you have an infection already.

I love this stuff, I really want to go to school for it but....$,life, time, ya know
Im my families healer anyway!

well

most 7-11's and quality daiey stores (chain around here) dont stock pineapple or grapefruit juice

but they do carry gallons of orange juice. I pickuup a gallon and chug the whole thing at the first faint feelings of a cold. i drink the whole damn thing.

I do make a lot of dismal bathroom trips (even worse at work with porta-potties and freezing temps) but other than the ill feelings that morning nothing else. my job requires outside cold work a lot, so i get ill feelings fairly often.

I might just pick up a couple jumbo cans of pineapple juice and keep it ready

It seems like this time of year my kids are always coming down with colds. The best thing I have found is peppermint/chamomile tea with honey and lemon at bedtime. Peppermint and chamomile are calming and great for your digestive system and honey is a natural antibiotic.

If you have the sniffles a nice hot bath with some peppermint essential oils will clear you right up or, if you don't have time for a bath, you can just put a couple drops in a bowl of steaming water and cover you head with a towel.

Also, drinking a couple of glasses of green tea a day can help to detoxify your body which can keep you from getting sick in the first place. Some studies say it can protect you from cancer and make you live longer too. :hippie:

Hope you feel better soon.:hb:

I drank tons of orange, pineapple and cranberry juice..and ate fresh off the tree oranges. I feel great today. Just a residual cough..considering it's only been a few days, I feel like I knocked this thing down fast.

:heff2: thanks all!!!

I think taking extra zinc makes a cold easier to deal with. Also some of those herbal tea combinations for colds you can buy at a health food store. Other than that, lying around and watching Jerry Springer works for me.

I just got over a cold and the best thing I found if your throat gets sketchy is the following folk remedy:

mix together honey, apple cider vinegar, whiskey, and a couple drops of lemon or lime juice. Stir it all together and drink it down in small shots.

Helps the throat and cough a lot! Even though it smells... not so hot, it works like a charm and doesn't taste too bad!

Dig, do you drink this at room temp or heat it up?
To me it sounds like a drink you should take hot. But that's because it sounds like a hot toddy to me.

You can do either. it's very similar to a hot toddy for sure. Hot drinks make me feel ready for bed, so maybe try it hot at night before bed and room temp/cold for during the day.

Hi,
I recommend taking echaneaca? It must be taken before the cold takes hold and every day 'til cold says, 'see ya later'. Plenty of fluids to rid the body of waste and crap. Basically, just treat your body with good foods, rest, don't stress and be happy! :flutter
