i've got a buitar and a bass, but due to many broken things my fingers lack the articulation needed to do the guitar, but i can struggle through the bass

my real love is the digeridoo, had it for 17 years now. kids love it, dog doesn't

back in high school we had the typical for that time grunge band, and the only one i am in routine contact with still is the bass player (i played drums)

what i thought would be a blast to do is form an old timey jug band.
jug, pie plate banjo, washtub bass, and a couple of odd percussion instruments. harmonica....I have heard a bunch of bluegrass covers of modern tunes and i think a lot could be pulled off with the simpler setup

Theremin is such a sick instrument its like a antenna that sends out some form of wave that makes crazy noises when you move your hand around the antena I'm getting one off ebay soon for my friends band. I play harmonica sometimes for them but I'm doing all they're recording now and I keep having problems but I'm just gonna do auxiliary instrument a bunch of random things...

Upright and electric bass, I actually have a college scholarship audition for the upright coming up. For the last several weeks I've almost entirely disregarded schoolwork and have garnered all of my focus towards learning the repetoire...auditions suck...

Oh and I've always wanted to learn washtub bass. It would be such an intriguing skill to have and would totally up my cool factor.

What is a theremin? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theremin)

The one I play (not mine) is one that is supposed to be fashioned after the one Led Zeppelin used in the video for "whole lotta love" from the DVD The song remains the same.

What a neat topic...anyway, I do play as well...and I had a friend of mine help me build a theremin...a lunch box theremin. It was awesome. That's what portishead uses a lot (though much more complex) if any of you listen to them...anyway, I play guitar and bass but have thinking about a banjo for awhile now and think it's time. The sitar has always intrigued me but I'd really have to have a prof. teacher to show me those eastern ways... :) I also play piano, but haven't in years. I've tried percussion and I simply don't have the...whatever it is to make you excel at percussion. Drum circles though, that's so much fun...around a fire. Oh, man. Anyone can do that and once it gets going it's so surreal. Love that. Especially at a good festival or something. Anyway, I definitely need to be playing more often... but if I could play any instrument proficiently, I would LOVE to play the upright bass. What a grand and amazing instrument. :hippie:

the sax is such a cool instrument. my ex played (w/o training or anything) and just blew and somehow, it worked. they really were amazing w/ little training in the area. the sax is a beautiful and HARD to play instrument, not to mention, it is very aesthetically pleasing. good stuff. :)

It is one of the most wreched sound you will ever hear. I'm a classically trained musician, and I can honestly say that it's hard to make me not dred listening to the saxaphone.

clearly i've not listened to a "bigining" (i have NO idea what that means) sax player. your opinion is valid, as i mine. i think the sax is beautiful just like most instruments. what sounds horrible is someone scratching their nails down a board, not the sax. it might sound just as horrid if i tried to play, but i don't...anyway, you should listen to some good jazz...your opinion might change (not trying to sound condescending...just sayin')...

and HEY, i aint sayin that theres no such thing as a good sax player, its just REALLY hard to make it sound even acceptable in my ears.
its like AHH, HES RAPING MY EARS WITH UNWANTED SOUND PENETRATION!

I've been playing guitar since 1966. A few years later, inspired by Pete Seeger, I picked up the 5-string banjo. (I have my own, strange way of playing - not one of the "accepted" styles.) I also play ukulele, a bit of mandolin, strum-stick, and a bit of keyboards.

Hey Gary, if you are ever in West Texas for a time, hit me up. I play washboard and my wife can sit in on percussion.
