There is this old-timer I know who lives up the hill. He has old cds, the "aol ones" maybe, hanging all over his property. He uses fishing line and strings them like wind chimes. Beautiful shimmering silent chimes, and I thought he was too old to be trippy.

did you use a heat gun, or an oven or a torch or something?

i've also made record bowls before.

i wipe the records off so they aren't dusty or anything. i put a cookie sheet/ pizza pan down (just so the record won't touch the stove directly) then i set a bowl upside down on the pan. set the record, centered, on top of the bowl and put it into the stove. the heat will cause the edges of the record (that are not supported by the bowl beneath it) to droop down and mold somewhat around the bowl. you can take it out and quickly moosh it a little to look more how you want it. let the record cool on top of the bowl. once its cool, it should stay like that.

i know these are horrible directions- you could also search online with keywords like "record bowls", "crafts record bowls", or "diy record bowls" and you'd probably find better directions as well as pictures.

One of my friends used old AOL cds, and scratched CDs as coasters.

I've made little mobile things of them too.
I've also used them as gift tags, and I saw a cool thing where you can make picture frames out of them.

I really like the gift tag idea :D

My room mate is gonna make hallway-hanging-bead-door thingies out of bottle caps.

As far as more day to day recycling, I've been using my worn out drumsticks as firewood. Of course, I need other kindling and fuel, but every once in a while a nice ol' stick that I don't use anymore provides a nice, free mini log.

I just moved into a new house a week ago. The cd ideas are great, and I think Ill decorate the closet walls w/ cd's. Also, I'm going to make curtains or at least windchimes out of bottle caps. I'm a new Buddhist convert and Ive been trying to think of ways to recycle. Thanks for giving me good ideas!

CDs are definatly great for decorating. My boyfriend and I actually took old aol cd's, nuked em (only like 10 or 15 seconds, cause they smoke and stink)and then hand painted cool designs on the "aol" side. we strung them on hemp cord with beads and now we have them hanging over our front door window. We have one of those doors where the whole middle part is a window, not the best door for privacy. But anyway, we have four of these creations, each rope has four cds, with beads in between each, covering our window/door. I actually also just put music cds resting on a tack above our cd player. ooo, another good thing for decorations are beer boxes, and ben and jerry's lids. hehe our house is decorated in lots of recyclables.

Great idea! But they don't make those milkpackages anywhere big enough for me!

So why not use LP:s instead,a plastichardbra for a woman.
U can glue some nails or broken glass on it to insure privacy.

Lol. Good one. That made me chuckle. :)

Since we're talking about interesting bras and all I thought I should just share one of the ones that I find very interesting....
