Have any of you tried those medical teas that are supposed to help when you are sick or need some sort of nutrients?

They have them here in the organic section of my local grocery store, but I have never tried them.

I ask because I like to sway away from over the counter meds unless i really and truly need it, and I am very interested in growing my own medical herbs garden. I had a peppermint plant at my parents house that I used for upset stomach's, so I want to start looking into other types of herbs i can use for different illnesses. [i am currently in an apartment with not enough sunlight for an herb garden, so i figure for now i could just buy the teas, if they work].

OR could anyone suggest a book on medical herbs/building your own herb garden and the benefits of doing so?

any information is appreciated!!

Im a firm believer. I have a 6 yr old and when he is sick we head straight for the herb cabinet. The teas have to be prety strong to "cure", they more or less curb symptoms. But liquid herbs work great, not as fast as antibiotics you have to let them do there thing, it takes a few days to feel better. Most people need instant gratification, but if you dont liquid herbs are the way to go. A path to healthy healing for sure.

I have a herb garden, I mostly cook with them but I do make some teas too.

I love making Mojitos with my fresh mint in the summer, mmmmm :p

Oooh Mojitos! :D Just one more great thing about mint.

I don't get sick very often but I use teas for my kids. Traditional Medicinals has a "Just For Kids" line. The cold care works great and it tastes good to.

Here (http://www.wikihow.com/Grow-a-Tea-Garden) is a page about growing your own tea. I am looking forward to putting together some infusions this summer. :hippie:

To both of you...AWESOME!!

And actually, yesterday I was going through the bargain books section and I found "Earl Mindell's New Herb Bible", and it looks pretty neat so far. A good reference book. Only $2!

Here's the herbs I use:
goldenseal for cuts
hawthorne for chest pains
chamomile for gut upset now and then
aloe for the occasional zit
then there's the culinaries: fennel, dill, oregano, basil, ginger, tumeric, garlic, they count too.

aloe for zits huh? It works? I tried oil pulling and my face is so broken out.I had chronic acne for forty years. I finally got it under control a year and a half ago when I cut fruit and all other sugars out of my diet. I also use no oil in any way although I eat a small amount of nuts/seeds. I believe acne is a liver problem and you have to either fix the liver which I have tried and failed to do or else you have to make some radical dietary changes. Putting oil in or anywhere on your body is something I would not recommend for acne as it's something you have a hard time processing if you have acne. Aloe vera gel works well for occasional spot remedies but is not a cure. If you want, PM me and I will give you the total get-rid-of-acne-through-diet spiel.

Hugs to all acne sufferers. I been there and it's no parade in the sunshine.

Hmmm, you guys are all so well-versed in the ways of the herbal cabinet, haha

All I know is for the occasional sleepless problem, I take valerian extract...it comes in a little dropper, add it to some chamomile tea and voila! And it doesn't make you feel like you've gone unconscious for twelve hours, like "real" sleeping pills >_<, ick.

one thing is that you need to do some research before starting anything. I had taken melotonin awhile back to help me sleep and that was the worse thing to take when what I really needed was serotonin.

The key is to be very careful that what you are intending to do is what is actually the best step.
