With very little data to go on, the FDA has decided that milk and meat from cloned animals and their offspring are safe to eat. This means that within a few months, the livestock industry could be shipping these items to your supermarket with no labeling.
Cloned cows and pigs suffer from numerous health problems. Many are born with deformities and birth defects, and a majority don't live to adulthood. Those that survive often have weakened immune systems. These sickly animals are frequently treated with antibiotics, which may contribute to an increase in antibiotic resistant bacteria. Without labeling, you won't be able to choose whether or not to buy meat from clones.
Act now! Ask your Senator to co-sponsor the Cloned Food Labeling Act (s.414) introduced by Senator Barbara Mikulski.

I don't want labels... I want the stuff taken off of the shelves! I am only buying organic foods going forward. This is complete BS that we are subjected to this crap.
I did sign the petition... some warning is better than none at all.

Oh I agree. I signed all the petitions to stop this from passing but the fda approved it anyway. It will be expensive and awhile before we see it, I think? Anyway such a waste of money, time and animals lives.
Go to www.organicconsumers.org tons of info on organic living

You know.... that would be a good basis for a bunch of hippies to buy up a rancher who is selling out and raise organic cattle. Even though you may have veggie lifestyle, not everyone would and there will be people out there who will want untampered meat and products.

the corporate world has taken the place of the freemasons in our society. now the freemasons are just some old goofy guys running around with secret decoder rings.
so that is my last day on the planet. when I disappear tomorrow you will know why.

I would be interested to know why everyone is against (or for) this issue, in a little more detail. I have been reading about this a lot and havent decided myself. I think this article sums up all sides of the argument pretty well:

I just think its way wierd and cloning in general is super creepy. Plus, they have spent tons of money on this. Do they even know if there are any side effects, like eventually we will grow and extra eye if we drink or eat cloned anything for a prolonged time?? So unnatural. Do we NEED too clone? How many animals are killed in the process, how much time is taken, money, scientists etc...
I didnt ck your link out, Im gonna right now. Maybe then I will have a pot to piss in.

I signed the petition immediately. That right there makes me very tempted to become a vegitarian. I can't believe that they would not put some sort of label on it let people know what they were purchasing, but then again anything to make an extra buck at any cost.

I personally don't think there will be any side effects but I believe in being informed about what I put in my( and my children's) body. I may chose to buy cloned milk but I want to know if the milk I am drinking is cloned or not. I really think it is kind of a mute point right now because cloning is still expensive and not really in the best interest of farmers or consumers. :)

I just think its horrid. We shouldnt have the need to clone animals for our sake. DO we need that much milk, meat etc... To spend millions on research, to have so many animals lives wasted in the process. There playing god and its wrong. Whats next? Cloning stronger, healthier, smarter children to make sure we dont have a bunch of morons to run our country in the future?
If it comes down to drinking cloned milk, eating cloned flesh, I will never consume either again.

I think it's disgusting how foods aren't clearly labeled as it is. People have the right to know exactly what they're putting into their bodies.
You won't want to see this then.....

whoa. they are cute, but how did they come up with them? I read some of the comments and one woman said they used to use them in labs, then have bbq's, she cant be serious. Sick.

You see this is the problem. I don't like genetic engineering. I don't think we should play god. But those are quite possibly the cutest things I have ever seen! I've always wanted a potbelly but they really get to big to be house pets.
