First off let me say I like ER a lot. As far as I know, it is reasonably accurate when it comes to actual medical issues. I was really bothered by the epsiode I say the other night though; it was the one where the helicopter crashes and falls on Romano. Just prior to that accident, the new doctor had stolen a patient's medical marijuana, rolled a joint and lit it up outside the ER. Now, the first problem I have is that they totally portrayed this as a dude stealing some 'drugs' and going outside to get 'fixed up' or something. The second problem I have is what happened next: Romano comes out, sees the dude smoking. He has just lit up and taken one big rip. Romano yells at him, telling him to go back inside and wait for him. The new guy does, and then the chopper falls on romano. Then all hell breaks loose in the ER, and the guys is apparently so 'high on drugs' that he's incapable of doing anything but sit there while all these people are dying around him.
It's crap like this that misinforms the majority of america and leads to the loss of our rights, and it's disappointing to me to see it being forced over the top of what to me is one of the best pieces of drama I've seen on public television.

I never watch ER however, what i gather from this is that many of the ignorant ideas surrounding marijuana use have NOT changed since the release of "Reefer Madness" in 1936........it makes me so sad that i wanna get high:)

I dislike media misinformation, as well. I especially dislike those "Truth" commercials. They're less misinformitive than some of the out and out lies most of our governments tell us, but they portray it in such a bad light: "If you look at me and see another disturbed, futureless pot smoking teenager yada yada yada" - implying every teenager smoking pot is futureless AND disturbed (great scare tactic there).....
On positive enforcement, I'm fairly sure I saw an episode of Nip & Tuck where the two main characters were at this college, and they were fighting with each other at the time..... One of them got a bag from a college student, and they made up after a night of smoking [and double teaming this hooker, but....].
Ah well. Someday, I hope to be in a position to make my own "RealTruth" commercials. That is, if I can get the FCC, TV companies (cable / satelite / etc) to RUN them......
You know what else? I almost forgot... Another thing is "blanket" accusations. I was watching Adult Swim (it's on the cartoon network for those that don't get it - you'll see why I had to explain) and I turned the TV on again in the morning, catching the tail end of Captain Planet, where they do their moral message thing and they said some crap about "And drugs and fighting make your enviornment worse, so keep your enviornment clean of them!". While I agree drugs aren't for kids, the lack of specification is just helping reinforce the DARE and other government funded miseducation programs' brainwashing effect about marjijuana to most of the kids watching these shows.
