Ok so I have gone all year without catching a cold, other then a stomach bug. But Kris and I got one, we are both sick. Horrible head colds, sneezing, itchy eyes, pounding heads. I felt it coming on since sunday so I have been making kris take his liquid herbs and another liquid vitamins, and I have been taking mine alot. But its not working!!! I would just deal with this for the duration BUT we are flying to florida thursday and I dont want either if us to fly with head colds. Ouch and Yuck!!!

I never take over the counter meds but I am desperate, lol, I will do anything for myslef and my son to kick these colds ass's fast.

Any advice??????

This is what kris has been taking and chewable vit c I just bought this stuff, hoping it tasted good and he would take it with out hating it.
http://www.naturesplus.com/products/category.asp?cryteria=category&category=12&productNumber=29951

And liquid Echinacea and Astragalus, which he takes anyway. 2 weeks on 2 weeks off.

I take noni juice daily, and this stuff which tastes so nasty http://www.evitamins.com/product.asp?pid=3105

Don't panic. You'll probably feel alot better by then. My advice is get some rest, stay warm and get some chamomile, peppermint and zinc in ya but easy on the latter as it might give you the runs.

Have fun in the sunshine. :)

ya that stuff im taking has lots of zinc in it, and peppermint to help the flavor. as well as 1000mg vit c. Ive actually been taking 4-6000mg of vit c a day plus tons of OJ.

Im hoping to feel better by then, just really bugs me that now of all times we get this crap!!!

I was hoping for some miracle cure that I never heard of. Far fetched but it was a hope.

Or maybe someone could vouch for an over the counter medicine that would help us? Like sudafed or whatever.

sure sudafed clears out the mucus, but where does all that germy mucus that need to get out go?
back inside you. Sudefed isnt very good.

It's Murphy's law. The worst time to get sick is when it will happen. :)

I hope you feel better by Thurs. but if you don't and you have to fly, you might try Affrin. It's a nasal spray. It's the only thing that seems to help me. I like it because it goes straight to the source instead of traveling through your whole body. Don't take it long though or all your symptoms will come back when you stop. I think it says three days but if you just take it long enough to get you through the air you should be fine. I'm not sure if they have a children's formula or not.

Best of luck. :hippie:

Here is the thing... as the forum's resident hypochondriac I have been lectured about this over and over again.

the over the counter meds will only treat the symptoms. But in this case it might be what you need to get some rest.

The most important thing as Crazylegs said is to not panic. Stress is not your friend in this situation.

Do either of you have an elevated body temp at all? Is it under 100? Is it over 101?

Let's say no body temp or a body temp under 100 (if it is over 100 call the doctor). I would get some nighttime cold medicine for yourself. ASK THE PHARMACIST. I prefer Robitussin. Match the one to your symptoms. If you can go to CVS. They tend to be extra helpful.

For your son you want something SPECIFICALLY for KIDS! OR AT LEAST THAT HAS A CHILD'S DOSE. This again is best left to the pharmacist. None of this stuff is going to kill you. The worst it will do is make you drowsy. Take the dose. Don't go over the maximum dose... yadda, yadda, yadda.

Get a comfy blanket and a warm cup of cider and REST! Vitamin C as already mentioned is your friend. Vegetables and most importantly PLENTY OF WATER. DO NOT GET DEHYDRATED WHILE YOU ARE SICK. You should be peeing clear every 4-6 hours.

Get well soon! Thursday is a long way from now. Rest up and enjoy your trip!

The reason why I say if you have a temp of over 100 to call the doctor is because if it isn't a viral infection some anti-biotics might help. I want to say this so you don't get worried if you are over 100. But it could be strep or some infection and if that is the case than anti-biotics will have you feeling much better by Thursday.

Nope no temps...yet!

Thanks for all the help guys, I really appreciate it!!! We never get sick and when we do I tend to panic a bit, but I will chill, rest and get better asap!!!

I may have get some over the counter meds I know it wont kill us I just hate doing it, but I think if we still feel shitty on thursday it may help us make the trek.

Thanks again :)

no temps then no real worries. head down to the local pharmacy and they will set you up with something to help with the flight. Drink a lot of fluids and REST!

Another thing I forgot is to cut out dairy products for a while as they can cause mucous. I drink a lot of Westsoy rice milk and I love it.

Emergen-C from walmart is a vitamin and mineral cocktail (like Airborne) works for us at the Peace Frog pad. If it don't work, spending money at Walmart will at least make ya feel American!!! That's healthy right?

shopping at walmart does little more than make me think, "gee, am I out of vaseline?"
