Make Earth Hour Happen

It started with a question: How can we inspire people to take action on climate change?
The answer: Ask the people of Sydney to turn off their lights for one hour.

On 31 March 2007, 2.2 million people and 2100 Sydney businesses turned off their lights for one hour - Earth Hour - sending a powerful national and global message that it is possible to take action on global warming.

This massive collective effort reduced Sydney's energy consumption by 10.2% for one hour, which is the equivalent effect of taking 48,000 cars off the road for one hour.
With Sydney icons like the Harbour Bridge and Opera House turning their lights off, and unique events such as weddings by candlelight, the world took notice.

All households, communities and business around the world are being invited to turn their lights off for one hour at 8pm on March 29 2008 as Earth Hour goes global.
Towns and cities around the world will be taking a stand on the greatest threat our planet has ever faced, and millions of people will unite to turn the tide on global warming.

Pledge to turn out your lights for one hour and it’s as simple as that.

this seems too easy. My lights are always off from 3am to 7am anyways.

If that's the time when you're asleep then naturally they're gonna be off.
:hippie:

8pm is given as a suggested time for earth hour (http://www.earthhour.org/), I can only presume, because that is a time when most people will be using more power than they would normally throughout the rest of the day - home from work and watching TV, doing the laundry, cooking etc etc.

And it really is that easy.....which makes the whole global warming issue so ridiculous. If people were a bit more aware of just how easy it is to be a part of the solution with regards to reducing energy consumption then I'm sure more people would contribute.

Dontcha reckon?

From what ive noticed people dont even realize what kinda electricity their using. Like how much their dish washer uses, or their electric stoves. And then when using these powere hogs they dont even think about the fact that they're using electricity. I think the power companies should TURN THE POWER OFF for an hour.

Even better idea MG - but then they wouldn't be making money for that hour would they!!
