so i may have stuck this in the wrong place, maybe green living would've been better, but i thought i'd share this site on community currency! good stuff, and it appears to be forming in humboldt as we speak (but there are a good number of places already using it...) so, thought i'd throw it out there.

hey, that was pretty deep. I gotta run to get my car fixed (yes, new car... already exhaust leak.... ugh!) but I will take a look at it when I get back.

I thought you were doing the Kerouac thing and going to Denver? reminds me of the song, "things to do in Denver when you're dead."

eh, i'm completely confused about my whereabouts right now...i'm either going kerouac (most likely?) or um, out to humboldt...friends in both places, beautiful in both places but...i really need something that ca offers (not that co doesn't, but...trying to stay w/ in legal limits these days...) but definitely wouldn't move there based upon that in and of itself, i'm just going to flip a coin i guess. better friends in humboldt though. it's getting a job out there that is the nasty factor in this whole fucked equation.

either would be kerouacian. follow your heart sunshine. If that fails go to CA with the better friends.
:-)
it will work out. my vote would be CA.

this is a very cool concept but doesn't remove my belief that we should try to actualize TJ's goal of becoming an agrarian society. I really think that by keeping to that standard, especially given the self-sustaining nature of farmers that a lot of today's modern issues would be solved.
crazy idea... but one of those crazy ideas that would be worth sinking the ship for.

i would like to hear your thoughts further, as you seem to dissent from the community currency ideal. i think i've got you, but i would like you to expound on those ideas, if you wouldn't mind. hehehe, i think it is CA, here i come. love the place, the people...i'm just so confused about what i "should" do instead of focusing on what i "need" to do. eh, whatever, i always do what i want anyway, so it'll be ca. :hippie:

that is completely what i am doing. it is so hard to figure out where my next move will be. i feel like i'm playing chess, but in a real life situation. i just don't want to put myself in check...and esp. not in mate. i'm hopping around like a little knight. it's crazy hard to figure out the best place for me but california is speaking my lang. right now. and has been for years. i'm really in a good situation where it is all open for me and it is my decision completely...though up north isn't looking so shabby right now. would love to stay on the east coast...though the west calls...eh, whatever, no matter where i go, i'm still going to fight for a local currency. um, do you guys have anything like that in your area????

after further review...
first off, this messes with my cool OCD hoarding instinct. I like to hoard shit. Damn, it. I NEED 1,000 basketball cards. I NEED my collection of pirate books. I NEED my pirate mug collection. I NEED my MONEY!!!!
YOU CAN'T HAVE IT. No wait, money isn't one of the items that I horde.
this is a very good and very flawed system at the same time.
in theory, it works perfectly. but what if someone DOES horde goods.
For instance, someone buys out the farms or more realistically is the only one that can provide a particular service. You can't go elsewhere for the service, you have to buy it locally. You get hyperinflation in a Carnegie type way. You are basically screwed.
It also reduces globalization which while often demonfied (and with good reason) is the future whether we like it or not.
We are all going to have to play nice.
I would rather see a unified global economy that was spread around to allow poorer countries to be able to compete in the world mahket.
so this is interesting but far more limited than communism! :-)
definitely more limited than european socialism... which is already working!
but a good idea, and eh, one of the more creative things on this site.
what the hell.... I am for anything that isn't capitalism.

ok, so you asked about the...let's see...standard held to this "monetary" system, no? as in, would it...fluctuate like the dollar (excuse my disjointedness, again)...is that what you are asking? (not in the former post, but in the former message) oh, and yeah, it IS far more limited than communism or socialism could be in practicality. um, however, that isn't the point. it isn't based on spreading ONE currency, or one way, but having local backing by workers and small businesses for each individual community. the community would set the standard based upon...errr, it's so hard to explain. i'll find something to send to you that explains it more eloquently than i. but yeah, the idea is limiting, but also a sound idea in theory and practice. no system is w/o flaws. actually, if the dollar (us)...you know what, this is the worst post on the subject. i'm trying to wrap my head around your question so as to better answer it. eh, get back to me. but yeah, it really is a cool concept that is more practical for our means...it really takes a community willing and ready to do it. you know what i mean? that understands it, and embraces the values behind this way.
