Okeh Loocy lemme' spain sumthin to u. The shocking image of a human mother with child in a cage is supposed to make us think of how cruel and tragic it is that this occurs all the time in the inhumane treatment of other species. An image wasted on a culture desensitized and indifferent toward disturbing images of any kind. Half the men that saw this laughed the other half masturbated. The woman; half thought "is she fatter than me"? The other half thought "you could'nt pay me to do that". All the animals that saw that image thought," My God someone do something".

Frog - yes, that 'bout sums it up.

And - to make it more realistic, the cage should of been smaller, and there should of been feces on the floor. Peta was way off mark on this one.:p

ok this is what I have taken from this whole thread.

1. What would Meg look like in this cage while pregnant and would she really NOT do it for any amount of money?
2. If Libra and Meg fought in a steel cage death match while pregnant who would win?
3. If the next time I get pregant would I be willing to sit in a cage half naked and let Meg post me on the website?
4. Are people in Oz more sensitive than Americans... that seems impossible but maybe?
5. Was the frog laughing or masturbating?
6. The Frog is into psycho-analytical babble.

Does anyone know why they put piggy mothers in those cages?

It's not to because they are horrible uncaring people. It's because, to be blunt, pigs are not bright mothers. Often piggy mothers lay their 1,000+ pounds on their 2 pound babies. This doesn't usually kill the babies because they get off quickly. What is does do is make them "splay legged". That means that the bones and/or ligaments in the legs are broken so that the adorable baby piggy can't ever walk and therefore has to be killed or it would starve to death. The cages are set up so that the mother has a limited area that the piglets can get out of quickly so that they don't get squished.

I'm not saying it's ideal. Ideally one would choose pigs for breeding that show more sense as mothers but in our current system well...it is what it is. Another reason to get your meat from a local farmer. :)

any protest that requires 50 posts to explain what the hell the protest means just isn't effective.

this is effective. Naked woman holding a sign that reads, "putting pigs in cages sucks!".

I would at least think... damn, I can get her in bed by taking a pig out of a cage.

a second thought would be for a group of clothed women to come up with some sort of statement that made sense so that as I walk by I might actually take it seriously.

how about, "hey, can i talk to you about the effects of pigs in cages."

right now, all I can think of is the muppets version of pigs and space and if a thong would've made this demonstration more meaningful? no, I guess not because the whole thing is so ludicrious that it doesn't work.

Wait a minute. What if they built a scale and put a women on one side wearing a carrot nose and a duck on the other side.

that way we could at least determine if the woman was a witch.

and what do we do with a witch....

BURN HER!!!!

that is really cool that your dad played in the pit orchestra. I know someone who promotes broadway shows so when I torture myself with a trip to NY, I usually get into something for free.

I saw the producers last time. pretty funny. springtime for hitler was cool.

My nieghbors are pig farmers, they have no cages? I mean they have stalls but for the most part those pigs are happy and very smart. We had pigs growing up too and pigs arent as dumb as people think. I know they squish babies but its hard for them to move because they are huge, not dumb.

Factory farms sucks, end of story ;) I def agree with Peta on that one.

I do laugh at the one pic where there is a lil kid standing right there and above the pic it says ADULTS ONLY. ha ha right.

My official comment is that while in an abstract way these comments are "spot on" to quote our brothers across the pond, that Woodnympho's comments were more accurate in terms of what was actually being accomplished.

this post does reflect the nature of our current state to lean towards inactivity or apathy perhaps due to frustration of lack of perceived progress. On the other hand, it also illustrates the opposite reaction in which people go to extreme's to gain attention in a corporate world where people's identities are being recognized.

so basically, we are all pissed off... and no one is doing shit about it except getting pregnant and lying in a cage half naked.

I think because they enjoy a level of radical extremism and abstract idealism that is hard to understand in the time period that most people have to donate to them to understand their messages.

I think in this instance the message is too convaluted by the imagery which is supposed to have a shock effect that doesn't work.

Instead of saying, see this inhumanity it says, see this insanity.

:DBecause people are IDIOTS. I personally do not have a problem with peta. God created. Out of respect we should be good stewards and know our place, assume our place amongst all creation. For the glory of God and for the balance and harmony of all created. If things weren't as messed up and one sided as they are Peta would'nt be so extreme. Desparate times desparate measures. Mercy on us all.

I don't think it is as much there extreme beliefs as much as they are so extreme in their messages that no one can comprehend what they are trying to say.

but maybe not, maybe people are just idiots.

As far as I can see it seems that they upset people because of their extreme activism and the fact that they are very fundamentalist about it. I imagine this is what angers a lot of people who would otherwise agree with their causes.

Me?

I don't agree with anyone who tells me that their way is the only right way - no matter what the subject is.
However, I do think any action is better than none and I hold more disdain for people who are aware of the maltreatment of animals and yet do nothing about it and slag off people like PETA who do - albeit that their methods are quite different from mine.
