On a standard drug screen, mushrooms, other hallucinagens, alcohol, most chemicals and prescription painkillers other than codien won't show up. As far as I know, most hard drugs like speed, coke, pcp, and the like go out of the system quite quickly, while drugs that break down into codien like opium and heroin stay quite a while as does marijuana. Maybe longer. I don't know a ton about any of these hard drugs though, because I've never done them and therefore have never bothered to do much research. I'm sure somebody else can be more specific, or if you want great details check erowid. Actually, just go read erowid. ;-)

depending on how often you get tested, most pharmacueticals stay in the system for a few days max, assuming you're not eating pills EVERY day. xanax (alprazolam) is one of my loves, and it does not stay in the system long.
however, if your knowledge on pharmaceuticals is lacking, or especially nonexistent, i wouldnt reccommend experimenting with pills whatsoever. you really need to know your body, and research all the side effects to be sure it wont be dangerous or interact with something you're already taking or a condition you already have. for example, if you take xanax, you shouldnt drink grapefruit juice because in some people's bodies, it can turn the drug toxic when combined. so make sure you read up and know your stuff if you ever decide to experiment with pills, as they can be dangerous if you dont know what you're doing.

IMO, taking prescription pills of any kind more than you absolutely have to, and especially recreationally, is pretty stupid. Really, you have no idea what it is you're taking and what it may or may not do to your body and mind, both in the short term and the long. There is no way the people who make those drugs know either, and if they did, they stand to gain nothing by educating the general public. Remember, these huge companies WANT you to take those pills. If you're addicted to them, if they help conform you into a pathetic drooling mokey moldable to the whims of society, that's more money in their pockets, and a boon to any government or authority figure. IMO, there are more than enough natural substances out there to play with who's effects both short and long term are known to keep you entertained without literally risking your life and helping to degrade other lives at the same time. If you've actually exhausted those and are looking for something more, I would say you hae some issues that need to be looked at very closely. Just my spare change...

i havent 'exhausted' anything....
i realize the abundance of unnecessary prescriptions, as i experience that with my psychiatrist all the time, but xanax is not something im prescribed too, and nor do i enjoy it 'purely for fun'. i made a clear point of the fact that if you decide to use any pharmaceutical in the first place, you must know your body and limitations, and have PLENTY of info on what you're taking. and yes, there are plenty of natural substances out there, which i enjoy in plenty, but people enjoy ecstacy without critizism among others(meth, coke, both with chemical additives), when they're composed of chemicals as well. fact is, prescriptions are over-wrote, but they do hold benefits for some.
