Oh how exciting was that encounter, that'd scare the crap out of of me, lol.
The only thing we actually need to be aware of are Mountain Lions as they are getting bolder (as we encroach on their living space) by the year.
Other than that we've had a Coyote walk down the sidewalk, a skunk climb up our stairs and a rat nest in my cactus, lol.

:p

Ya I was watchin a scary movie, just got done smokin:bandit: , heard a noise, but thought something blew over, thunderstormin out. So I get up to let blue out cause he is freakin, had my hand on the door, saw something move and it wasnt blue, flicked on the light and screamed!! Called 911, they laughed. Called my dad and he came over, scared him away. After I got done freakin, I took a ton of pics, he wasnt scared of me at all, I was right up to the door and on the phone. The whole deal if on video would easily get me the big prize, lol So funny. Dude on 911 asked if the door was locked, im like WHAT, they can f*&%$#@ open doors!!!!!

did he see the wipe your paws sign?

we have run into them while hiking, usually we try to be quiet so we don't spook them off

and grae is right about the pumas
the dnr keeps insisting they don't have a breeding population in michigan, but they will acknowledge they have migrated into the state. I figured it was b.s till one chance encounter. caused us to pick up the tent set up, put it in the back of the truck as is, sleeping gear and all and drive 10 miles to a safe place to clean our shorts and pack up and leave. I bought an industrial size can of bear spray after that (not gonna pack heat while backpacking, and not gonna stop backpacking)

the thing we figure, if the creature is offensive, as opposed to being defensive, no matter what we got someone is getting fubar because the whatever is gonna be stealthy till the time of attack, probably faster than we can muster our defensive means.

might sound mean but short of the spray of keeping a gun ready you might try some firecrackers.

ya know the game commision here says the same thing, no mountain lions her, nope not possible. People have pictures, my brother in law saw one in his yard, I could name 10 people who have. Crock of poo, not sure why there so adamant about keeping it hush hush?
