US contractors

I am tired of hearing about U.S. contractors in Iraq. Why sugar coat it? Are these plumbers or electricians or some other honorable profession? Why not call it like it is: Mercenary Killers. And why is there activity/ whereabouts/ wellbeing newsworthy? Anyone have an opinion?
