Its so scary. I really wish they could find a reason, I always thought it was vaccines, I still do really. I know its different but kinda along the same lines, the uprising of kids with adhd, it has to be linked some how.

I am so blessed to have a healthy child, I am so thankfull for that. I pray for the families who struggle, how strong they must be.

Denise, with all theCrapthey are doing to the food, GE crops, pumping all kinds of drugs into livestock and marketing pharmaceuticals without adequate testing. It would be hard to pinpoint what is happening to who and from what. All that is for sure is the machine gets richer and our babies are suffering

Autism is a great concern to me as is many of the other developmental and mental disorders. I went to a seminar 2 mths ago about the rise of Austism, ADD ...and the rest, due to vaccinations. Now I know this is a touchy subject but ever since the introduction of compulsory vaccinations, many adverse reactions have occured.

I have a 8mth old baby and he has had one shot but that will be his last. Call me what you will but I believe that in some way we will be unecessarily objecting him to some potentially permanet and scary illness/disorders.

Luckily here in Oz it is not compulsory.

It is here unless you have a religious reason. Kris got some of his shots, but never more then one at a time. Ive heard if they do like 4 in one day its a higher risk? I dunno but he is never getting another one either.

This is also why I am raising kris as organic as possible. I just had to redo my monthly grocery budget because I have to get a crown put on a root canaled tooth and its gonna be $900!! So its gonna be tight and that makes living organic all the harder. Sucks, it should be the norm.

When are they goin to realize that all the chemicals and crap being used is so bad, I just dont understand.

Breast feed as long as possible. Good for baby's immune system.

I have had a really hard time with this. There are some things that I think the harm out-weighs the risk. Things like polio and the like that have horrible consequences. But things like chicken pox and the flu that we have all lived through don't seem worth it to me.

As far as ADD and ADHD I think they are as over diagnosed and over-medicated as depression. In my opinion most often it is a cross between keeping children cooped up in school for too long and not enough discipline at home. Not that I'm saying that some kids don't have an imbalance, but for the most part I think it is just teachers and parents wanting an easy fix.

Teachers don't have anything to do with kids being medicated. We can't suggest medication as an option to parents for their kids' issues.

And PS-Most teachers (good ones, anyway) don't even know the definition of an "easy fix".

I can speak to this. The concern that I have isn't just that they overdiagnose ADD and ADHD (which thankfully was more prevalent in the 90's) but also that General Practicioners and Pediatricians are the ones making a diagnosis that should be made by a psychiatrist. Some parents are at fault for not wanting their kid to have the stigma of "seeing a psychiatrist" and some doctors are at fault for not owning up to their responsibilities and telling the parents "hey, your kid needs to see a psychiatrist". I woul ad, that seeing a licensed social worker is also a good first step for the child in this instance.

The other concern that I have is that the treatments for ADD and ADHD can possibly cause dependency and also can cause addiction (there is a big difference between the two that I will get into if that is desired). It is just my opinion, but to go with that kind of med for a light case or a "manageable" case of ADD or ADHD might not be the most informed choice.

I take a benzodiazepine called atavin for my anxiety which can also cause the issues that these meds for ADD/ADHD can cause. The difference is that the level of my anxiety makes it difficult for me to function at work, socially, this forum (LOL), etc.

That is the time to use these types of medicines under surveilance of a trained psychiatrist with experience on these meds.

To just have some pediatricians handing out meds like they are pez candy is wrong.

don't forget all the imported food from China. Remember the wheat gluten scare that killed those dogs?

what possesses us to buy food from China is beyond me.

I certainly didn't mean any offense to teachers. There are a lot of wonderful teachers who really care about their students and it is definitely not an easy job.
I have a younger brother who is dyslexic and before he was diagnosed my parents were "encouraged" by the school (I'm not sure if it was the teacher or administration) to get him medication for what they considered attention problems. They were convinced he was ADD because in second grade he did really well on the IQ and vocabulary tests but he wouldn't (couldn't) read.

Importing SUCKS. Grow your own!!for what it is worth the celebrities in order to continue looking young do not eat gluten or any high fructrose syrup, etc.

So there must be something to it. Even if it is just esthetics.
