I hope this isn't a totally stupid question but I'm having trouble Googling it....getting it narrowed down I guess.

I'm wondering about carrying a small amount of weed on a commercial airplane flight? Say I want to go on vacation and take a bit with me?

Do they routinely have like drug sniffing dogs and stuff? I know there's a homeland security/weapons thing but do they also screen for weed?

Say I keep it on my person and don't check it into baggage?

Or is it better to check it into baggage?

Or is it simply better to try to find some once I get to my destination? (I don't know anybody there who uses it so I'd be hesitant to get some from somebody I don't know).....

Or just resign myself to having a weed-free vacation?

Depends on how much you're planning on carrying... I've "slipped" through having less than a half gram on my person that I totally forgot about, just chilling in my pocket. Imagine my surprise at my destination! I've heard of many people with similar experiences carrying as much as 2 grams.

That said, I really don't recommend it. Especially if that shit be smelling, yo! They *do* search for it and the dogs *will* smell it. Thing is, they're not so active as they like to make it seem ;).

If you absolutely *must* carry something because you are *sure* you won't be able to find anything on the other hand, you can try and minimize it as much as possible. Depends on the length of your flight, as well. The following thing is mostly heresay, told to me years ago by people that used to visit Amsterdam a lot. It may be total bullshit, but it makes some amount of sense:
Take saran wrap, wrap it around your bud. Put inside a sandwich bag, ensuring to get as much air out as possible. Wrap in saran wrap again. Now insert this bundle into a bottle of cold creme, lotion, or other very smelling thing you can carry on your person.
This has, reportedly, worked for as much as a 1/4 ounce at a time. While none of the pieces of it are surefire, they certainly minimize the risk (lowering the amount of aroma it gives off and masking it with something very strong and pungent). Also, reportedly (a teacher told me this once), if you walk around with a half open can of peanut butter, it can make some of the dogs go crazy... supposedly this is sometimes used for diversion *shrug*

On the one hand... I've done it without thinking and I was fine, but on the other... I might have been pretty damn paranoid if I had *known* I had anything on me.

So, my advice to you is to try and hook it up on the other end, as it really is safest. But if you do take something, try to take as small an amount as you can and do your best to minimize the smell and possibly mask it. :)

this is a tough one...i'll try to go in order...

-obviously your safest bet is to resign yourself to a weed-free vacation..but who are we kidding ...thats NO fun!!!
-next would be to find some there, which can be problematic depending on where 'there' is.
-the third option would be to mail it, if you have a reliable po box, or address to send it to.
-fourth would be to take it with you on the plane. Now the airport screeners use metal detectors to check people and they use x-ray machines to check your baggage. Though its kinda hard for a screener to see a small amount of weed in the x-ray, its still possible unless its well hidden. That leaves us with carrying with you. The good thing about the metal detectors..is that you already know what they can detect...METAL. If they detect metal on you then, you may be further subjected to a more rigorous check, followed by a pat-down. Unfortunately, if they suspect anything at this point, they'll put you in isolation and eagerly watch you disrobe. However, if they detect no METAL, then you slide right past. I might suggest that you hide it discretly on your person (i.e. not in pockets, shoes, bra!)...hmm...not to o many more places:)...however FWIW i've had great success attaching a small non-metal carrier to a hemp necklace:D

yeah, you can put it in your bra orrrrr you can take the deoderant out of the dispenser and then put the deoderant back in, that works well becuase they can't search through your toilettries and if theres drug dogs the deoderant smell masks the smell of the weed! (or so I've learned from having drug dogs at my school) mmmbaha. just as long as you don't have it like just placed in your actuall bag you should be good.

I had a friend who had her toiletries search through. They opened up shampoo bottles and looked inside and everything. Her flight was international, I don't know if that makes a difference, but I doubt it.

My advice: Don't risk it!!!!!!

Now that I've said that, I know a girl who wrapped a small amount in tinfoil, then in a bunch of saran wrap and formed a "saran wrap string" and inserted it into her cookie like a tampon.

Of course, it's all up to you... but something about that is super creepy to me. Not to mention, very uncomfortable sounding.

Also, I have seen the dogs hanging out and doing what they do while traveling in the airport.

Not all of the dogs are drug dogs. Trust me. They make it seem like they are in more places than they really are.

Well, I'm actually just going to New Orleans...it SHOULD be easy to get some there but I have no idea how, as a tourist, I'd find somebody reputable....

Taking grass through airports is really not a big deal. Don't bother trying to hide it too well, because if there are dogs they will find it pretty much no matter what. Your best bet is to just stick it in your pocket, no more than probably a 1/4 ounce or something. It's not likely it will be dicovered, and at least that way if it is you can just say 'oops, I forgot that was there...' and it won't look like you were trying to smuggle some 'drugs' across state lines. They'll probably just make you ditch it in your car or take it away. Oh, and don't put in your checked baggage; that's just dumb. Some stoner baggage screener will just take it...

when I flew from New Orleans International, I was one of those "randomly" searched people. I wore a sarong & a spaghetti string tank top w/ sandels & they patted me down & searched my carry on. When I got to IN, I unpacked & found my box that looks like a lighter & fireworks! I don't know how the fireworks got in there, but I can't believe they weren't detected. Maybe you could check out security before you go, just stop by the airport to find out where your gate is located if you're not familar w/ it.

One time I carried Iggy my airplant on the plane & no one noticed & there weren't dogs so...

Here's another tip: Put j's in the ends of tampons.

I brought a carton of ciggerettes with me once and open a few packs and put joints inplace of the ciggerettes and superglued the ends shut and closed the carton back up, seemed to work didnt get caught!! I wouldnt do that now though this was years ago!! If I were you I wouldnt risk it I am sure you'll find some when ya get there, you can tell people who smoke, just ask, its worked for me in the past!!

One time (back when I was younger and dumber) I had a glass piece and some herb with me while traveling with my family. We had a layover and I wanted to make it a little more interesting so I go the bright idea to go toke in the parking garage. Went out and did the deed and as I was coming back through security, my glass piece was setting off the metal wand!!! I started to freak out and I'm sure I was blushing. I remained calm on the outside however, but they searched all my stuff. For some reason, they didn't find the glass piece even though it was obviously something solid in my pocket. It took a while and I almost missed my flight, my parents were a little pissed.

I have been traveling alot lately (mostly international) and I can tell you that they don't really screen for things like weed. I wouldn't take a piece with you, cause I learned the hard way that even glass may mess with the metal detectors. In another incident the same thing happened to me that happened to delta, I ended up with about 2 g's in my pocket when I got to the destination. It was actually a pleasant suprise as I had some herb to toke!

Also, you should have no trouble at all finding people who toke in New Orleans. Been there many times and met lots of cool folks. Be careful, still.

my best advice is if you're traveling in the first place, which costs money, then you should just find a headshop once you're at your destination and pick up an inexpensive glass or metal piece, you preference. you can leave it behind as a gift to someone else who may want or need it. :)

I have to agree with toman on this one, don't put it in your checked baggage and if there are drug dogs they will find it. I have a friend who trains drug dogs and is also going to get into explosives (thats where the money is). Hes a great guy but its a little unsettling to watch him train. First he lets the dog smell the pot, he then hides it and in a very excited tone says; "Where's the dope? Find the dope". Its like this big game.
I agree that a few years ago it would have been so easy to do but now I just don't think its worth the risk. Too scary to think what they do to pot smokers.

This may also sound totally stupid...but if you're going on vacation can't you just leave your pot at home for a while? If you have to consider evading international security - remember you'll have to do it twice each way - is it really worth it??? It will be home when you get back. I always find pot is better after taking a break from it for a while...
