So I have a close friend here in town and she just lost her only child. She died in police custody in Tacoma Wa on Monday. I live near a local country non denominational church and while hitching to town I saw one of the deacons in the parking lot and asked him if he could add my friend to the prayer chain on Sunday. The first question he asked was "how is her spiritual condition?" and I thought he meant how is she holding up spiritually and he said "no, I mean does she believe in Jesus?" as if to say if she didn't he wouldn't be willing to add her to the prayer chain.
My question is, if she didn't believe , wouldn't that be even more of a reason to pray for her in addition to her losing her only child?
I don't know about everyone else but I feel that Jesus would want to answer our prayers for her so that she might see that Jesus helped her through that time and accept him as her savior.
I attended this church once as I was invited by a member that picked me up hitching to town and thought it would be rude not to go, but I really felt out of place for some reason. It was just a gut feeling but I follow those and this kind of reinforced that feeling.
Am I reading my feelings on this wrong?

I would get away from those types of xtians. They are the ones who give al lthe good ones a bad rep. I'm sure all of us here on the board would pray for her in our ways to help send healing energy to her. I will.

I will send her healing energy that she might find some sort of peace, if not peace then courage.
That is a tragic thing for anyone to go through.

some folks seem to think in order for help you need to take god into your heart and life, draw strength from him and all that. most people turn to god when they have problems and not thank him for the good things often enough. I like to call that the good god savings and loan program. to them praying for somone who doesent believe is about like telling the current administration that ther really are environmental issues that need immediate action.

I can't say I care much for those sort of "christians" let along worshiping some omnipresent diety. Prayers from someone in my "spiritual condition" would probably fall on deaf ears to the great almighty.

I am saddened by what happened, pass along my condolences and if the better type of christians are right, two things they have said to me
"only god and the one you lost know what the makers plan is, be happy that they have been granted life everlasting" and "god gives the burdens to those strong enough to bear them"

Sorry to hear about your friend Tokin.

I am horrified that a deacon asked you that. That's like asking you what her credit score was. Totally irrelevant.

Tokin, you're a good friend, and are reaching out to her, and on her behalf. She's been added to *our chain* - and positive energy is definitely coming your way, and to her.

Much strength to you both during this hard time - and I know you will be a pillar to her.

Tokin,

If a group won't accept people who you have accepted acceptance from than it is best to stand by the ones who have accepted you.

I am sorry to hear about your loss.

Sorry I was gone for a minute! I had a hippie stoner moment! Thank You for all your prayers and healing energy. It is a tough thing to deal with as she was my friends only child but we know that she is at peace. Thanks again.
