apparently, there is a rogue element of pretend Buddhists that label themselves as "Beatnik Buddhists".

I am definitely a Beatnik Buddhist.

Take the rules I like and break the ones I don't... and I like Haiku which is a double plus.

I have the urge to buy a beret and a black turtle-neck.

I think that you just might be missing the point.
Namaste.

^perhaps I just have broken the tip of the pencil.

It does seem like each of the beats were very selective of what rules they would subscribe to.

I could. I am not going to, but yeah, I could.

I have the long side-burn thing going. I don't want to mess with that. I get a lot of compliments on them.

^ I like to cover them in flour and fry em up good in a cast iron pan with some onions... then deglaze the pan and add some water and a little more flour and get a good gravy goin'. Throw the extra gravy over the chops and some mash potatoes and some corn and you got yerself a good ol' boy southern comfort meal.

I reckon' y'all should try it.

you hear?

Wow that was wicked pissah! [retard smilie]
I had that meal for dinner. Cept' brown rice instead of taters. brocolli instead of corn, no gravy and the chops were trimmed of fat. Wife and kids ate more like the meal you described.
So how is it that you are able to lay your face in a frying pan?

Also try browning the chops quickly w/ tons of onions and then filling the frying pan (do not use cast iron) with water. Let that boil and then simmer for like 45 minutes.

If you let it simmer for like an hour you can throw carrots and/or potatoe quartahs in there as well.

glad you liked it.

all I use are cast iron pans, Ive boiled in mine plenty of times. Why no boil for you? I try not to cook acidic things in it, but from time to time I make mean sauce in it anyway.

So whats a beatnik buddhist anyway?

There is something about cast-iron and water that scares me. Goes back to my first cast-iron pan where I "let it soak" in the sink.

I have quite a few cast iron pans myself. They last forever if you treat them nice with veggie oil.

Beatnik Buddhist is a very liberal form of Buddhism that holds more to the traditions of Buddhism than the actual practice as demonstrated in the Dharma Bums by Beat Writer Jack Kerouac.

nah dont be scared, cast iron will be fine as long as you dry it out when your done and oil it. When mine get all crudy I put wtr in it and simmer on the stove to loosen up the grime, rinse, dry out over the stove, oil, done. I love cast iron.

I love the word beatnik.

I always throw mine back on the burner to "re-season" it. In the winter I might throw it into the stove.

beatnik in a sense is kinda derogatory. A light sense. It is one of the followers of the "beat" generation... or beats. Not to be confused w/ the vegetable.

In modern parlance, it has a positive connotation... well if you like beat stuff.

which I do. More in to Kerouac than the others though.

I enjoyed Dharma Bums and agree with the the interpretation of Beatnik Buddhists. My problem with just about all religions is the whole thing about rules.

I own two beret's one black and one "camel" color beret. :D

I just pick and choose my own rules. I also dropped out with the Ramones! LOL
